fantastic tweet from Ana Navarro about the diversity on the stage tonight

Regardless of who you support, there’s three women, two African-Americans, one Asian, one Latino, an openly gay veteran, a child of Indian and Jamaican immigrants, a Jewish guy, a vegan, and even a couple of straight, white guys on that stage.
Like it or not, this is America.

She's a Republican strategist and a Never-Trumper. Like Rick Wilson, she's not really our friend. It's more like they're allies against a common enemy. After all, towards the end of World War II, the U.S. was allied with the Soviet Union against the Axis powers. When the war was over, they became our enemies. (I think there's an analogy there.)

Here's her Wikipedia entry:

Nonetheless, I, too, like the way she skewers Trump and his crew.

Her father is born of people from where? She was born where? Answers: Africa and America. Sen. Harris can be categorized in many ways but her Africaness/Americaness is indisputable. But maybe more comfortable to view her as black American as she says of herself here and anywhere else on the planet; that speaks of a direct line to Africa no matter how you parse it.

to finally being forced to realize this was not a picture of America after nearly 250 years of denial.

Funny thing, in going to grab that photo I found that in 1972, several years after the Ozzie and Harriet show ended, but reflecting the enormous civil rights advances of the 1960s, O & H tried another series, Ozzie's Girls, which ran for one season. The girls were college students rooming with them.

I didn't know "Ozzie's Girls" is one of her earliest works. I remember my mom saying "beautiful and talented girl" around '75 and I paid attention to her. One season, no wonder I missed it. Watched an episode and surprised by how natural and not unusual a black girl in the mix was portrayed. And the anti-misogynistic, though paternalistic, Ozzie trying to protect the girls is surprising. Interesting plug for Social Security in this episode, too. I don't have to imagine a lot of Moral Majority/racist heads exploding.

Besides her influence on me, I don't know anyone of my generation not knowing of her marriage to Gil Scott Heron and his timeless "The Revolution Will Not be Televised...the revolution will be live."

I forget how early television did try and failed to accentuates non-othering in a world that' resists natural diversity.

Thanks for posting this, Hortensis. No matter how old it is, the message of the right to exist without harm persists.
