(32,828 posts)"To Mr. ORourke and his allies, it has been evident for some time that he was confronting a vanishingly slim path forward. At the last Democratic debate, a pair of Mr. ORourkes donors flew to Ohio to meet with him about his campaign and the possibility of him quitting the race to run for Senate in Texas against John Cornyn, who is up for re-election. Mr. ORourke told them he was not running for Senate, according to people familiar with the matter.
A spokesman to Mr. ORourke reiterated that stance on Friday.
Beto will not be a candidate for U.S. Senate in Texas in 2020, said Rob Friedlander, an aide to Mr. ORourke."

Mandatory gun buybacks, with the threat of LEO potential lethal force backing it up (regardless of the moral merits) was a campaign-ending stance, as was having a go at Pete over Buttigieg's 'courage' or lack thereof. Pete lit him up in the last debate.
Some numbers on the last debate, big winners, Buttigieg and Klobuchar, big loser, Biden
Beto was the only other 'worse than expected' performer in double digits, percentage-wise, besides Biden.
Most all polls after this now that to be the case.

No way hed win in Texas, or anywhere else for that matter.
All the money his father-in-law has cant change that.

Shame to see you take things so personally and at such a petty level that you would place Buttigieg below
Gabbard
Delaney
Williamson
Messam
Sestak
(I like the rest (some more than others) and utterly respect anyone supporting them)
but hey, given your previous posts, I cannot say I am surprised.

(51,308 posts)Cant imagine doing that.
I love reading DU, some posts I like, some I dont, but just because someone posts something I dont like would not influence my choice of a candidate.
Thats so odd imo.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
Theres some Biden and Warren supporters I cant stand. Yet, theyre still my top two candidatess. I cant imagine letting random internet people get in my head so much that it influences my choices. Bizarre.

I remember another poster who said the same thing; then I think she left DU.

(7,813 posts)I think he is one of the most genuine candidates we have. Not sure where he goes from here, but I don't blame him for not wanting to run another campaign for Senate after having just run one. I wish him and hope to see him in the future on the national stage in Democratic politics.
