Bloomberg makes 'massive' ad buy
https://www.politico.com/news/2019/11/22/michael-bloomberg-ad-buy-2020-election-072893In the latest sign Michael Bloomberg is prepared spend freely on a prospective presidential bid, the billionaire has begun booking a huge quantity of TV ad time in media markets across the country including the one thats home to President Donald Trumps winter White House, Mar-a-Lago.
This buy is MASSIVE, Ben Taber, an analyst for the television ad tracking firm Advertising Analytics, said in an email to POLITICO. Weve only seen a few one-off stations but it looks like the buy is going to be at least $10 [million] for one week. Possibly way more.
The ads will begin airing as soon as Monday. One of the first ad buys was spotted in the West Palm Beach, Fla., media market, according to Advertising Analytics. As of 10:30 a.m. Friday, Advertising Analytics tracked buys in 100 local markets across the country, with nearly $1 million in reservations so far.
Asked about the ad buy, Bloomberg aide Howard Wolfson texted back an animated GIF that read: Stay Tuned. A spokesperson said he had "nothing to share at the moment."
Bloomberg could spend more in one day than other presidential candidates spend in an entire campaigns lifespan," said Fernand Amandi, a Democratic consultant pollster who worked for President Obamas campaigns. "What makes the Bloomberg campaign budget so amazing is that there is no budget. Everything is attainable....We havent seen a presidential campaign like one that Michael Bloomberg could run.
-snip-
Bloombergs team calculates that, due to the size and instability of the Democratic field, no clear frontrunner may emerge after the run of the first four early states that ends with South Carolina voting Feb. 29. That could leave the billionaire in an ideal position to forcefully begin to compete on March 3 when 15 states plus American Samoa vote on Super Tuesday.
While some of Bloombergs opponents may be starved for cash at that time, he will have the unprecedented luxury of being able to advertise in all of the states, including mammoth Texas and California, the size and expense of which can easily bankrupt a campaign.

It looks like Bloomberg might blow 300 - 400 million dollars in his attempt to buy the nomination ..

He didn't spend anything like that trying to keep 'I will cut corporate taxes' trump out of office.

(628 posts)2. I just dont understand
If his issue is concerned about Biden and doesnt want Warren or Sanders because they are too far left.....why doesn't he throw his support to Amy, Kamala, or Pete? Or maybe throw that money to Biden and help make him a stronger candidate.
What he could end up doing is pull support from Biden and help make Warren or Sanders the nominee the people he supposedly doesn't want. Which I wouldn't be unhappy about.

(7,277 posts)4. Bloomberg does not want the types of taxation
and restrictions on private equity firms that Warren and Sanders are advocating. His own portfolio manager said so.
