Sanders and Khanna Partner to End Yemen War

Nov 26, 2019

Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Ro Khanna made history by passing the first-ever War Powers Resolution to end U.S. involvement in the Saudi-led assault on Yemen. In the wake of Trump's veto, they are partnering to prohibit all funding in the 2020 Pentagon spending authorization.

5. Actually it was Murphy, Sanders and Mike Lee (Republican). TOGETHER.

No one was the leader. It was a collaboration that passed in March. And Trump vetoed it.

This is a new resolution in Senate and House to prohibit spending in the 2020 Pentagon budget.

competition? I remember an op ed Bernie write back in 2018. As well as his resolution entered into Congress. They had been working together for years. Or can we just be happy that they worked so hard together to get something done? Only to have it vetoed by Trump.

And can we not be glad it is being addressed again?

Rhetorical question. No need to respond.

did he take credit for it? They cosponsored the resolution. He, Murphy and Lee put out many joint statements, made joint press conferences, and worked together for more than a year on something that was historical. There are many videos you can watch, statements you can read, articles you can revisit - but you prefer to live in your reality.

What this OP is about is an entirely different thing. Because Trump vetoed the Murphys, Sanders, Lee resolution - Sanders in the Senate and Khanna in the House are proposing a new way of stopping the war - which is defunding it. For context - the House has passed an amendment - Ro Khanna, Adam Schiff, Pramila Jayapal and Adam Smith, co-sponsored an amendment back in July and it passed with bipartisan support. But the Senate bill does not contain the language. Sanders and Khanna are pushing Democrats to not cave and vote for the Senate NDAA if it does not contain the revokation of funding.

And for additional context: Partial Sanders statement after the passage of the bipartisan bill: "Thank you all very much for being here. Let me begin by thanking Senator Lee and Senator Murphy for the great work they have done, not just in the last few months but over the last year.

I want to stress the bipartisan nature of this legislation. We have brought Republicans and Democrats together in a very historic moment. And what that moment is about is that the Senate this afternoon stated that we will not continue participation in the Saudi-led intervention in Yemen, which has resulted in the worst humanitarian crisis on Earth.

But hey - don't let actual facts get in the way of your reality. Enjoy it and Happy Thanksgiving.

In 2018 when Murphy, Sanders and Lee worked together, they worked together too.

This is something completely different as I explained to you previously. It has to do with wording that was passed in the House that is not in the Senate NDA. But it's all good. There is no "leader" and "follower" except in your mind. There is no competition except in your mind. There is no "invention" except in your mind. Good people are trying to do good things. But if you prefer to believe something else - hey, it's pretty obvious nothing is going to change your mind. So - if it makes you happy ---- well that is all that is important. Be happy. I wish you nothing but joy on this Thanksgiving Eve.

For that matter, why on earth did Sanders refuse to join the Democrats in their unified call to save the people of Yemen? There are times when being part of a crowd and not getting to have your name all alone should be just fine.
