Harris' and Booker's low numbers among black voters have been constantly cited here as a big deal - in fact, when Harris dropped out, this was offered as "proof" that race played no part in her inability to gain greater traction. But Buttigieg's consistent failure to attract measurable black support is treated as no big deal.

They are always quick to dismiss individual instances of racism, look for alternate excuses to explain it, and insist any other non-racial circumstance that could be at play completely cancels out the possibility that racism could be a factor.

He speaks well and has some very good centrist points...progressive NOT

It's not limited to the black community. And his problems with black voters extend far beyond any homophobia.

Were it not for homophobia, Pete's numbers would be higher in every demographic.

Homophobia is definitely a factor, even though other factors also are affecting his numbers. But the presence of those factors in no way obviates the fact that Pete is being negatively affected by bigotry against homosexuals.

Something I fully believe that’s affected Pete, Harris and Booker’s numbers..

I don’t know about any of you, but I can’t think of a single devoted Democratic Party supporter that I’ve known or know now that will not vote for a candidate that’s gay, or black, or female, or latino.

However, especially in an election like this one, where so many feel a fear born drive to “win at all costs”, there are ones that I know that did not want to support because they feel that that others, especially voters in critical swing states, will not turn out the numbers to support.

In 2008, the one thing that REALLY propelled President Obama was one key word.. HOPE. This is what got him past that hump of disbelief.

A couple of real critical questions:

Do people who won’t support a candidate with a minority status, or female, who are not supporting the candidate that they’d like to see win the most because of a perception that their candidate of choice won’t win in the GE even realize that they are still making a decision based on racist or sexist root reasoning??

Second, even so, when by all indications we are fighting against a very real turn into fascism, just how fair is it to guilt those who are not at all overtly racist but are wittingly or unwittingly supporting/validating the racism/sexism of others?

People aren't going to say, "I'm not going to vote for Pete because he's gay or for Amy because she's a woman or for Kamala because she's black. Their prejudices cause them to view them differently and judge them more harshly than they would a straight white male candidate.

9. Privilege?
Sat Dec 21, 2019, 08:52 PM
Dec 2019

Cory Booker and Kamala Harris both grew up with way more privilege than the average person in this country. It isn't racism that is keeping them from being President, it's just that they aren't that attractive as candidates right now.

Maybe the problem with both of their campaigns was they they tried to call one of the most popular democrats, the vice president of the first black President, and the leader of the democratic field a racist. Maybe that's a bad look that has a lasting and negative impact on potential voters.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
