Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumThere's too much policy talk. No candidate is running on his or her story.
This worries me. Candidates talking policy change the platform, which is important, but candidates who tell their own story win, and we don't have anybody doing that. The closest was Beto, and he wasn't doing it very well.
Back in 2008 when I was volunteering in Ohio and Pennsylvania for Obama they kept telling us to stay off policies. Tell people we were talking to that they can see all the policies they want on the website, but remember that that's not what wins voters. Voters respond to stories. Obama's campaign was about his story, and so our pitches as we knocked on doors should be about our stories: how we came to join the campaign, what it has meant to us to meet and talk to people, why we feel this is important enough to stand out in the rain. That's what wins voters.
I'm still worried and disappointed that we don't have a "story" candidate or even one who looks like he or she will turn into one.

(1,584 posts)Both had great speeches with great stories. Biden gets made fun of for his stories. Yang has some great ideas to consider but isnt Presidential.
The debates have been awful trying to create drama for ratings.
