Looks like Mayor Pete has the big Mo at this point.
I'd be happy casting a vote for my brother veteran.

(5,376 posts)He is the leading moderate candidate, by far, now.
I expect he will continue to do well in New Hampshire.
Good luck to you and your preferred candidate.

(53,061 posts)Going into Super Tuesday Bloomberg will be spending 30 million a day and Biden won't have 30 million total.
Bloomberg had the 2nd largest event in AZ so far. I would guess that Biden would place 5th here. (Bloomberg, Sanders, Butigege, Warren, Biden). But I could be wrong

A second or third place finish in NH. Is bad but explainable. A fourth place finish will be terminal.

(25,487 posts)We heard it over and over and over and over and over on DU all throughout 2008.
As for his 7% minority support... that is because
A) They don't really know him yet
B) They didn't perceive he could be a winner... which is what they're looking for.
His minority support is going to double this week.... and if he wins NH, it will triple.
Winning changes perceptions.... and creates second-looks.

Mayor Pete probably is not going to get the nomination but being gay won't be the issue.
Are there 30% of the population that won't vote for a gay candidate? Yes, but they aren't going to vote for ANY Democrat.
I have talked with dozens of people about him including Trump supporters that don't really like Trump's demeanor. Not one has said that would be an issue. The vast majority just don't care.
I think your 7 % is high. AA voters don't move to a candidate until they have proven viability in the primaries. If Pete wins both Iowa and NH, an increasingly likely possibility they will start listening to him and his active church life and his volunteering for Afghanistan will be well received.
There is a reason we have campaigns, so people can see people they don't know. If Biden goes to 4th in NH there are going to be a lot of voters reassessing their choices. Mayor Pete is unlikely to get the nomination this time but being gay won't be the reason.
