Don't Fear the Bern!

From The Atlantic:

Judging by media coverage and the comments of party luminaries, you might think Democrats are bitterly polarized over Bernie Sanders’s presidential bid. Last month, Hillary Clinton declared that “nobody likes” the Vermont senator. Last week, James Carville, who ran Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign, said he was “scared to death” of the Sanders campaign, which he likened to “a cult.” Since the beginning of the year, news organization after news organization has speculated that Sanders’s success may set off a Democratic “civil War.“

But polls of Democratic voters show nothing of the sort. Among ordinary Democrats, Sanders is strikingly popular, even with voters who favor his rivals. He sparks less opposition—in some cases far less—than his major competitors. On paper, he appears well positioned to unify the party should he win its presidential nomination.

EVERY one of the Dem candidates is divisive to a bunch of people. The moderates, including Joe, are divisive to people who are sick of business as usual and no progress on dire needs like universal health care, living wage, and college cost/debt. They are seen as having nothing to offer but the same platitudes. Yep, Bernie and Liz are also divisive... mostly to people who are scared of the spectre of division. Standing for ideas for major change is scary. But it's also how you solve problems.

Then there's Mike Bloomberg. Probably the least divisive - because everyone agrees he's a schmuck.

Philly and Pitt the Pennsyltucky vote comes into play tbh. It is very red and in no way will the masses in PA vote for Bernie. Not trying to be negative about Bernie b/c I will vote for him *if* he is the candidate. I just think he will not get the votes in PA where there are a lot of purple voters and very strong Trump support in middle PA.

without the stone-throwing campaign staff, and without some supporters' hostile Twittering, stalking, doxxing and death threats on-line and booing at rallies. If you want progressive policies without the Sturm und Drang and with a lot of actual numbers, why not Warren?

Bernie doesn't yell. He's passionate. He's not some angry old man yelling "Get off my lawn!" If a little passion is scary to some, it makes me bloody disappointed in them.

I love Liz (obviously). She is a very different candidate than Bernie. I hope she gets the nom. But I'll happily take Bernie if she doesn't.

In actuality, polls show, Bernie is extremely polarizing. Specifically along the lines of race and age. He is only "strikingly popular" with his base, which has never represented the majority of Democrats.

Has nothing to do with party elites and everything to do with ordinary Democrats.
