Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumHere's how Bloomberg can help save us from defeat in November
Run negative, Republican-style attack ads against Bernie in swing states and Super Tuesday states now. Run ads in Florida of him praising Fidel Castro. Take the whole opposition research book that Republicans supposedly have on Bernie and put it all out there now. Run the ads we expect Trump to run in the fall if Bernie is the nominee. Simultaneously, commission tracking polls in swing states doing head-to-head matchups against Trump and see if they change in response to the ads.
If he does that, one of two things will happen. Either Bernie will tank as much as some people expect, both in the primaries and the head-to-head matchups against Trump, and someone believed to be more electable gets the nomination. Or the ads don't have much impact, in which case many Democrats will be more comfortable voting for Bernie, he wins the primaries and we avoid a contentious convention, and anything Trump might throw at him in November is old news already. Win-win as far as I am concerned.
Really, anyone could do this, but I think Bloomberg is in the best position to do so with his unlimited resources and amazing ad staff.

As cleaver as he and his staff are, I am sure they will consider running ads against Bernie, but just when is the question. I know he wants to help the Democratic party, but Bernie has already said (foolishly) that he would not accept.

(21,859 posts)wrongly or not. This is all what being a serious contender for running for the office of the president in this country takes. Some say his first debate was a mess, but to be fair, it was his first debate on the national stage, so some blunders/mistakes/missteps are bound to happen. Everyone goes through this process of initiation. He'll be far better than rump.

(11,605 posts)Although he's definitely not my first choice. But right now he's sounding the alarm about how unelectable Bernie is. He got into the race in part to stop Bernie. So the best thing he can do for everyone - including Bernie - is to direct his attack ad machine against him. Either it'll take Bernie down, or if it doesn't Bernie will be in a stronger position because his dirty laundry is all out there already and he'll have shown he can survive/recover when nasty attacks are thrown his way, just like Obama did in 2008 when the networks decided that it was necessary to air wall-to-wall coverage of his crazy pastor for weeks at a time.

He seems to me to be dismissive of others who perhaps don't understand his point or miss his point. I don't know. I watched him a couple of times and I still have this negative impression of him in my mind from those times and it will never go away. I just can't bring myself to listen to him again.
If he's the candidate I will support him but I just don't think he's going to be the candidate, there are way too many apples out there to definitely decide who our candidates (P and VP) will be.
