I'm out of this group for a while.

I need to take time to digest the apparent trajectory of the presidential primary and assess how this will affect the House of Representatives. I think we can probably say goodbye to winning the Senate and the NC governorship is in serious peril. Now is a good time to see if there are places where the ticket can also make SOME positive advances.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

and never participated until recently, but I have to say it.
I cannot believe we are doing this AGAIN.
This guy isn't even a Democrat. He's poison to the system, and this is going to cost us the entire election top to bottom.
I just can't believe what I am witnessing right now. And I'm not even arguing policy, it's a matter of numbers. There is no way Sanders can carry enough independents to defeat trump, and the thought it making me sick.
My god, I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see any viable path here.

From Real Clear Politics averages of the polls:

Nationwide, Bernie 50.2%, Trump 45.6%. Of the dozens of polls listed, Trump only wins 5.

I know, I know, it's the electoral college. Well:

In Michigan, Bernie 49.0%, Trump 44.3%

In Pennsylvania, Bernie 47.3%, Trump 44.7%

Hell, even in North Carolina, it's Bernie 47%, Trump 46%.

In New Mexico, Bernie 59%, Trump 41%. Wow.

In Colorado, Bernie 55%, Trump 45%. (Only one poll from last year.)

In Wisconsin, all the candidates are losing to Trump right now.

Here are some data points for you. Now, I understand that it’s hard when actual data points don’t correspond with dogmatic convictions like those of Sanders supporters who believe the general electorate is ready for a full on embrace of socialism but sometimes hard lessons are necessary.

https://www.npr.org/2020/02/19/807047941/poll-sanders-rises-but-socialism-isnt-popular-with-most-americans

A new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll backs up the idea that the label could hurt him.

Asked about their impression of socialism, 28% of adults said they have a favorable view, while 58% said they had an unfavorable one.

The GOP is going to hammer Bernie with all the oppo research they have, which is said to be horrendous. I've seen articles referring to a two-foot thick binder of damaging info, a fair bit of it being his own words and actions. You can only say "I used to think that, but now I think..." so many times before people start calling bullshit.

Bernie has, thus far, not had to slog through any of that shit. Hillary didn't use it for fear of alienating Bernie's supporters and losing them in the general. The GOP will have show no such grace. Trump will do what Trump does best, which is lie, smear, distort, and gaslight, but with all that oppo research to play with.

It should tell you a lot that Russia is, according to our intelligence agencies, aiding Bernie's campaign. They clearly believe he's the best foe for Trump to face.
