@_FloridaMan gives fake name to deputy in hopes of not being arrested. Fake name has a DUI.

A man gave a fake name to a sheriff’s deputy to avoid being arrested, but it turns out the name he gave was that of a man who was not supposed to be driving.

In late December the 38-year-old Niceville man was stopped at State Road 85 and Interstate 10 in Crestview after an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy noticed the windshield on his pickup truck had a crack across the driver’s field of vision.

The man initially gave the deputy a false name and birthdate. When the deputy conducted a records check he discovered the person by that name had had his driver license suspended for DUI. He arrested the man.

Later, the man admitted he’d given the deputy a fake name because he wanted to avoid being arrested on an outstanding warrant. Turns out he too had lost his license due to a DUI, but he was also wanted for aggravated battery.

Couple gets engaged at Wal-Mart, arrested for stealing sex toys (NOT Florida)

Shortly after a Bay City man proposed to his girlfriend at Wal-Mart, the pair shoplifted jewelry and sex toys, police say, leading the newly engaged couple to spend their New Year's Eve in jail.

About 6:14 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, Bay County sheriff's deputies responded to the Spencer's Gifts store inside the Bay City Mall, at 4101 E. Wilder Road in Bangor Township, for a shoplifting complaint involving a man and a woman. Both suspects fled the area prior to deputies' arrival, but deputies found the woman walking between Bob Evans and Taco Bell, followed by a Spencer's employee, court records show.

Deputies searched the 20-year-old woman and found a pair of gold earrings and a silver necklace with a star pendant, court records show.

The woman told deputies she and her 25-year-old fiancé, William J. Cornelius Jr., visited the mall to shop and maybe see a movie, adding she had no part in what happened at Spencer's, court records show.

Dallas Bishop Kevin Farrell: The Cowboy Mentality (supporting Obama's actions on guns)

Thank God that someone finally has the courage to close the loopholes in our pitiful gun control laws to reduce the number of mass shootings, suicides and killings that have become a plague in our country.

President Barack Obama’s executive actions, though modest, are first steps in correcting gun laws so weak that they are ludicrous. Congress has unabashedly sold itself to the gun lobby. If there was ever any doubt, its recent action to kill legislation to ban people on the terrorist no-fly list made it obvious.

It is absurd that terrorists, criminals, and mentally unbalanced people can freely and openly buy weapons not intended for sport, but designed to kill people. Writers of the Second Amendment envisioned smooth bore muskets and not semi-automatic and automatic weapons of war.

The president’s action is a small but important step to control sales of weapons at gun shows and over the internet that sidestep background checks. These “back door” gun dealers have effectively nullified the law requiring background checks by legitimate gun dealers by creating a black-market in firearms for those seeking to avoid background checks for whatever reason. The proliferation of weapons must be controlled.

Car robbed at anti-robbery press conference

An ABC7 News car was broken into while the crew was attending a press conference held by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Police Chief Cathy Lanier to discuss a Task Force created to fight robberies.

According to ABC7 News reporter Stephen Tschida, thieves tore through the news vehicle Wednesday morning and a culprit smashed a window out of the car and stole a cache of equipment.

Tschida said the crime happened within view of where the mayor and chief were speaking, approximately 100 feet away.

Woman fights DUI by claiming that her body brews alcohol

Drunken-driving charges against an upstate New York woman have been dismissed based on an unusual defense: Her body is a brewery.

The woman was arrested while driving with a blood-alcohol level more than four times the legal limit. She then discovered she has a rare condition called "auto-brewery syndrome," in which her digestive system converts ordinary food into alcohol, her lawyer Joseph Marusak said in interviews this week.

A town judge in the Buffalo suburb of Hamburg dismissed the drunken-driving charges this month after Marusak presented a doctor's research showing the woman had the previously undiagnosed condition in which high levels of yeast in her intestines fermented high-carbohydrate foods into alcohol.
