New DU Group: History of Feminism

History of Feminism

Gender & Orientation > History of Feminism

The History of Feminism group serves as a safe haven to discuss, and learn the history of feminism. Apply the lessons of historical and modern day feminist struggles to current issues and events that impact women. This group will also serve as safe haven for women (and supporters of feminism) to openly and honestly discuss and learn how the patriarchy affects women individually and collectively.

The "Cool" section is back on the DU Homepage

A number of people have asked that the "Cool" section be returned to the DU Homepage, and we have decided to bring it back!

The "Cool" section highlights interesting discussion threads from the DU Groups and the DU Lounge, selected by the DU Administrators. They are usually (but not always) non-political.

To see it, go to the DU Homepage, and scroll down the page. The cool section appears under the sub-head "COOL". It is in the second column from the left (the column with the Pic of the Moment and Trending Now at the top).

We have made some changes to the DU Homepage

It's been three months since we launched our comprehensive overhaul of the site. One of the things that we changed was our homepage. But over time the admins decided that we needed to revisit the homepage and make some changes in order to make it fresher and more compelling. The updated homepage is now online:

http://www.democraticunderground.com

One of the driving principles of our comprehensive overhaul has been to give greater control of the site (including its content and its standards) to our members. But the homepage we created last December went in the opposite direction, giving greater control to the administrators to determine what appears there. This was a mistake which did not leverage our community's greatest strength: Our members. Our new homepage is an attempt to remedy this error. We believe this new homepage will much more interesting and useful than before.

The DU Administrators are working hard behind the scenes to make this community the best it can be. The next items on our agenda: Polls, Advanced Search, Spell Check, and improvements to the DU Journals.

Thank you for being a part of this community.

Showing off our weekend projects.

Hello, DU Gardening group. This is my first post in the group, as I am new to gardening.

My family and I spent the weekend creating a new garden. I think it it turned out to be pretty good, so I wanted to post here in the DU Gardening group to show off all of our hard work from this weekend.

Here is our raised bed, approximately 11 feet x 3.5 feet. The sides of the bed are made from old roof slates.

And here is the salad table I built. Instructions are here. My boys helped paint it.

We haven't actually planted anything yet. I think that'll be next week's project.
