Marthe48's JournalIt's not really a newspaper any more
It's a hollowed out shell of the honored bastion of reporting it used to be. It took awhile, but after stripping the integrity from a robust publishing icon, bezos managed to kill it.
stalin's great purge
When a new chimp siezes power of a chimp colony, he ousts all the young males, kills all the offspring of the last leader and mates with every female to ensure the survival of his genes. So every despot from time out of mind uses the same game plan. Avoiding that outcome was what made the U.S.A. unique. Until a pos traitor destroyed it.
Better pardon every registered Democrat in the U.S. Issue an executive order that every registered Democrat working in public service has a lifetime position and can't be fired.Hell, make it cover every currently employed public servant.
Throw everything at the wall and see what sticks.
The media is complicit in politicizing the fire disaster
I read that Kevin Kline told people who were leaving their cars parked on the road and walking to evacuate to leave the keys so the fire fighters could move the cars if they were in the way. Taylor Swift donated $10 million and Travis Kelse donated $1 million to help victims.
But you'll hear about things as you mentioned, and instead of reporting what is in front of their faces, news and updates people need to hear, you'll get backyard petty backstabbing. Just keep the gd pot boiling.
Compare the coverage of these life altering life threatening, fires to the coverage of the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The resilient isolated mountain folk and the city slickers. The fact that a lot of the people who lost everything as ordinary people who happen to live near Los Angeles is lost on the media. Not every person in LA is a celebrity, but you can bet no matter what status the survivors are assigned, they are all in the same dire straits and they are helping each other.
I know the meme is a joke
But seriously, we live on a dynamic planet. The living conditions on this world has made humans and many other species adaptable, from figuring out physical strategies to survive, to being able to mutate our genes. I sometimes imagine what it would be like to live on a planet that wasn't a living entity. Just a rock floating in space. Maybe that's Heaven, no pain, no sorrow. Right now, we are like fleas on a dog, and maybe the planet needs to scratch once in awhile.
Having services for the common good is vital
The idiots trying to vacuum every buck out of every pocket won't realize the benefits of providing for the common good outweigh the costs. Many public servants chose their career because they have at least a spark of altruism, something that the lunatics with money don't have or think they need. I can't imagine hiring thugs to protect me, or aimless people to fight fires, or staff medical facilities, or teach kids who don't have that spark of humanity. Humans used to be trained with an eye to developing that spark, but the megalomaniacs would like to beat and starve that out of us, so like them, we'll do anything for money and nothing for the joy of doing it.
I'm wondering how far back the rwnj will go
People of color will be easy targets for an initial mass expulsion. After that, when rwnj try to inflict more pain, who do they terrorize next? My paternal g-grandmother was born here, from a naturalized Swede. My maternal g-g grandparents were born here, from naturalized Germans. But I'm a mouthy Dem. As the goons refine their deportation parameters, will my pedigree and skin color be enough to keep me under the radar? Or anyone, for that matter?
I understood retaliation and retribution
But this goes so far beyond.
I don't say much about this horrible situation. I have friends on both sides who are personally impacted, and I don't want them suffering like this.
Israel is not going to solve the emotional and mental stance of Palestinians by bombing them out of Gaza. Enough Palestinians have fled to safety and are watching events in their homeland that the idea of Palestine as a state will never die. The resentment of displacing Palestinians since 1948 and the hope for their country to again be recognized is no longer concentrated in a strip of land. The people who carry that flame are spread across the world. It is possible that what netanyahu has set in motion will someday create another cry of 'Never Again' For some reason, the outrage is not covered as the outrage for ethnic cleansing in Bosnia-Herzegovina, genocide in Rwanda, and unprovoked attack on Ukraine has been covered. It is real, but not recognized as valid, as valid as protest against those horrors were and are. This proposal, of limiting aid, goes against the grain of humanity, if we have much of that quaint feeling left.
On the other hand, Israel has been the target of countless attacks, raids, and hate as an idea and as a country. Having your relentless enemies living right next door provokes endless anxiety and there doesn't seem to be any way to stop hostilities. Israel has never lived in peace and living in constant attack or defense mode has taken its toll on every person who loves Israel. I can make changes in my life if someone or something bothers me. Jews who lived in the area of Israel from time out of mind don't have the same options. They can relocate within the border of Israel, or they can go to another country. If they go to another country, they will still have to deal with an atavistic hatred of all things Jewish. kristian style rwnj are happy to stand on the sidelines and let Muslims and Jews kill each other, because they hate easier than they love.
I have wondered many times why God chose to put Jewish, Muslim, then Christian believers right there in that part of the world. Then I realized it is a crossroads. The ideas move outward from that place, and no matter what you call God, the word will spread. Could another reason be that in that crossroads of the world, humans of different cultures, races, religions were supposed to meet and find a way to respect the differences and embrace common ground? If there is anything divine in why people of major religions were positioned there, it is not creating peace and harmony. I really can't take sides, because too many people are suffering.
I've been taking naps lately
I woke from one the other day, sort of lingered in the haze between sleeping and waking, had a fleeting thought of a memory, from way back when I was young. I got a flash of nostalgia, but it was cocooned with years, so even though I felt like I missed that time, the sadness was too faint to bring tears. I spent a little bit of waking time wondering if I've lived so long that the memories are too distant to take to heart.
We unpack more than ornaments at the holidays and this is the time of year that memories glitter with the same brightness as the tinsel. It is easy to think of good times when someone always made sure we were safe, fed, rested, loved. Now we have to be nice to ourselves, take care of ourselves. It might be harder to do right now, but withthe holidays over for another year, we can get back to taking one step at a time, one day at a time.
Too bad for students
I attended a suburban Cleveland school district that was almost all white. There were 2 Japanese students, sisters from the same family. Anyway, I remember that before there was an attempt to standardize education so Johnny in California and Mary in Alabama and Derek in Nebraska all learned the same information, kids who moved into our school system from somewhere else often struggled to catch up, or change their idioms. And even if they were a little better educated, they weren't spared learning the pecking order. In the 50s and 60s, a lot of poor whites moved North to get jobs at Good Year, steel mills and so on. In hindsight, it was probably like another planet. I remember my 6th grade teacher doing a short lesson on pronunciation. She mentioned it was creek, not crick. I had never heard anyone say crick before, and I was fascinated. I think the lesson was probably kindness from the principal, one that the other teachers shared with their classes. The kids in my class were long time students and I doubt any of them ever said crick, either.
Americans still do a lot of moving around. The lifetime average is currently 11 times. Can you you imagine the disruption when rwnj dismantle public education and reduces it to the whims of local fiefdoms? I bet the reasoning behind dismantling a national standard of education is to disenfranchise any minorities, any religions, and any person on the gender spectrum that is not exactly the stereotype of white evangelical Americans.
As much as people move, their kids are going to be exposed to differences, the hard way. Kids going into the military are going to have a rough time adapting to the structure of military life and learning about the variety of humans who join up. It is a 2 way street, for sure. I remember getting to know a farm family who lived in S.E. Ohio. I loved them dearly and stayed with them once for a week. As time went on, I realized that their education was different than mine. It didn't make them stupid, but they were definitely locked into being farmers and living the life of farmers. One of their cousins moved north and the local family was in awe of the change in status.
I'm sure we all remember the sitcoms of the 60s-Beverly Hillbilly, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, and how the characters were stereotyped, either as snobby urban dwellers or naive country folk. Modern education changed that dynamic, and I think were working on nuances--getting kids to meet and acknowledge other colors, other religions, other sexuality, really a whole world of variety, way more complex than city slicker and country bumpkin. The rwnj will take us back to a land of stereotypes and no one will benefit. Another giant leap backward.
perhaps the fuhrer lovers emulate history
Maybe the people pulling the strings let the Covid pandemic mimic the Spanish flu pandemic. Both pandemics swept the world after exhausting wars. There was a stark contrast of life styles. On one hand, people were drinking champagne out of their shoes, while others were losing their businesses and farms, battling inflation and watching unemployment climb higher and higher. After the Roaring Twenties, the 1930s saw fascists' rise to power across Europe and Asia. By 1938 hitler was a world leader, and showed his triumph by holding a rally in New York. He went on to ignite WWII and commit horrendous crimes against humanity. As I write, the are raging battles across the planet, inflation remains painfully high. Some people are paying to be launched into space and others are living in their cars. traitor trump will emulate the rise of the fuhrer by attending a rally in New York. I imagine if traitor wins on Nov 5th, the world will plunged into a worse war that WWII was. Why? I don't know. Maybe there is reincarnation and the people behind the scenes want to reenact history, rewrite the ending.
