Reliable Sources on CNN reports on the press following FOX and right-wing narrative on immigration

A couple of guests noted that the Biden press conference was dominated by questions on immigration and there was not one question about the pandemic? They said that this was a right-wing narrative pushed by FOX News.

I think they make a good point.

The Lie That Smolders

https://billmoyers.com/story/the-lie-that-smolders/

(snip)
The danger of the Big Lie — the false idea that Trump actually won the 2020 election — was always that it would convince Trump supporters to fight for him not because they thought they would be fighting to overturn the U.S. government, but because they thought they would be defending it. If, indeed, the election were stolen from the former president by the radical socialists of whom he warned, it would be the part of heroism to rally to protect our system.

That is, apparently, what at least some of the insurrectionists believed they were doing. Today, a federal judge ruled that Jon Schaffer, an Indiana man arrested for his participation in the insurrection, must remain in jail because he poses a risk to the community. Schaffer had clearly embraced the Big Lie, telling journalists: “We’re not going to merge into some globalist, communist system, it will not happen. There will be a lot of bloodshed if it comes down to that, trust me…. Nobody wants this, but they’re pushing us to a point where we have no choice.”

(snip)
On the same day, as news broke that the Trump administration was hoping to bring back firing squads, Rehl posted: “Hopefully the firing squads are for the traitors that are trying to steal the election from the American people.”

After the attack, during which, according to the charging document, “approximately 81 members of the Capitol Police and 58 members of the Metropolitan Police Department were assaulted,” Nordean posted a message on social media saying: “f you feel bad for the police, you are part of the problem. They care more about federal property (our property) than protecting and serving the people.” Rehl posted, “I’m proud as f**k what we accomplished yesterday, but we need to start planning and we are starting planning, for a Biden presidency.”

The Doors of Perception

“If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro' narrow chinks of his cavern.”

Donald Trump and FOX News continue to be complicit in the attack upon our Capitol.

They are complicit in the further promulgation of the Big Lie.

They are being "persecuted". They just walked in, got a few hugs and kisses from the guards, and left. It was no big deal.

And FOX News continues to promote this garbage.

Both of them, FOX News and Trump, should be indicted for sedition against our government. Of course, that would be nothing new for Rupert Murdoch.

They are the Sedition Party. They are the Insurrectionist Party.

They are not friends to America or our Democracy.

It's almost as if both of them have been in hiding, like cockroaches, since January 6th. Now they come forward to promote the Big Lie even further.

It is beyond insane.

The Fallacy of the Filibuster

The theory goes that if Democrats pass legislation that needs to be passed now, the Republicans will do away with it and pass their own favorite legislation when they get back in power?

That theory can only carry so much water. What if the legislation that Democrats pass is wildly popular with a large majority of Americans? What happens if the Republicans do away with it?

The present fallacy about the filibuster assumes there is no political price to pay for over-riding popular legislation.

That is why the filibuster is flawed from its creation. Popular legislation cannot be over-ridden without a political price. If the Republicans were to replace popular legislation with unpopular legislation, a similar price would be paid. They would not be in power very long.

The filibuster should be dismantled immediately.

It is counter productive and does not belong in a democratic system.

I am going to say something that will really p*ss off Republicans and the right-wingers...

But, Joe Biden is doing a wonderful job as President.

He is 1000% better than the "former guy".

Progressives really have no complaint with the job he has done thus far.

If he can get something done about guns and the filibuster, it would be great.

For example, I thought he was being a little too optimistic when he said his goal was to get 100,000,000 vaccination shots in his first 100 days. I thought that might be a tough goal to reach. He reached it in 58 days! That was impressive!

Alex Wagner, subbing for Nicolle Wallace, is doing an excellent job!

Almost as good as Nicolle.

She is very knowledgeable on all the issues and is very commanding on the camera.

I know that she was let loose when they made a big cut a few years ago but MSNBC would be wise to find a slot for her, maybe in early primetime?

She is very good.
