If Democrats had impeached Trump yesterday, Republicans would be in a panic today.

They would have felt immense pressure to convict him. Their jobs would be under threat. Every day that passes, they feel more and more pressure to do something. Defending Donald Trump is not going to get them re-elected. The reality is beginning to dawn on them.

Public sentiment is turning against the Republican Party. And they know it. That is one explanation for the fake speech that Trump gave yesterday. It was a speech of desperation.

Just as a leopard cannot change its spots, neither can Donald Trump change his racist rants.

I do believe, the pendulum has swung.

Did you notice that Trump did not ad lib any of his speech this morning?

He stuck to his script.

The Republicans understand the seriousness of the political situation. Trump seems to understand it, also.
It is very rare for him to stick to the teleprompter. This morning, he did. (Except for maybe the "Toledo" misstatement)

There was an underlying panic in his speech. He spoke as if he had just been baptized in a Baptist Church. He had seen the light. But we know that is not true.

He is simply playing the game until he can distract and change the subject matter. But this time, it felt different. His bullshit was not going to work. And he knew it.

The Republicans are in a panic also. Because they know that their fortunes are tied to Donald Trump.

Who wrote his speech?

It sounded a lot like Stephen Miller, but there were a lot of references to "God", as if Mike Pence may have helped him?

It was rather obvious that Trump did not write the speech. Words are cheap. We will see what his actions say?

We will see where he goes at his next rally? We will see how loud he dog whistles?

Actions speak louder than words.

August 5, 2019

When is your next rally, Mr Trump?

Do you plan on having another in the next couple of weeks?

Do you plan on continuing to incite your supporters with violence toward their fellow Americans?

Do you plan on addressing the mass shootings?

Do you plan on dividing our country even more?

Can we expect you to change this disastrous course you have embarked upon?

Can we expect you to try and bring the nation together, Mr Trump?

There is no need to respond.

I think we all know the answer.

Governments are created to secure the lives of its citizens.

From our Founders until today, the purpose of having a government was to secure life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. None of that can happen if you are dead.

A government that cannot guarantee the security of its citizens deserves to be replaced. That was the impetus behind our Declaration of Independence.

Government must do its job. Otherwise, we will sink into anarchy and violence.

Readers react: 'Moscow Mitch' gets a taste of his own medicine. He's had it coming.

<snip>
So “Moscow Mitch” doesn’t like his new nickname. Well, I guess so; everybody knows the bought-and-paid-for Senator McConnell really works for Beijing. Regardless, I’ve listened to right-wing folks spew the “Commie” slur for decades, and as far as I’m concerned, McConnell can pound sand. All these years taking Kentucky taxpayers’ money and I have yet to see him do anything to benefit Kentuckians, unless those Kentuckians happened to have a bajillion dollars to donate.

Now McConnell can’t even make a move to help secure our elections because he’s terrified that blocking foreign interference might put Republicans at a disadvantage. That should be a wake-up call for every poor fool who continues to vote for these self-promoting “conservatives”.

“Facts matter. Details matter. History matters.” That’s rich, coming from someone who’s been in the forefront of the Republican Party’s outright refusal to work for “We the People”, while proclaiming themselves the only real Americans.

It’s past time people started calling it like it is. McConnell is starting to get a little of what he’s had coming for years.

The Ratcliffe Debacle

Of all the incompetent decisions by Donald Trump, his choice of John Ratcliffe, little known Congressman from Texas, to be the Director of National Intelligence, may be at the top of his list?

We are talking about national security. We are talking about the health and safety of the American people.
To choose someone so incompetent, so nonchalantly, is a serious mark against Mr Trump, added to the dozens and dozens of marks already against him. It cannot be explained away.

But Mr Trump did try to explain it away, when he was forced to withdraw the name by Senate Republicans, when they informed him that he did not have the votes.

Trump defended himself and his vetting process on Friday, by telling reporters, "you vet for me. I like when you vet." Is this the same "fake news" that he is forever criticizing??

He said, "We save a lot of money that way."

If there is a scale for incompetence, this Ratcliffe debacle would be at the very bottom.

The winning strategy against Donald Trump...

...is to contrast with him, not to be like him.

His "strengths" are ridicule, name-calling, hyperbole, out-right lying, and bushels of bullshit. Do not even try to compete on his level.

The contrast would be, to be serious, presidential, self-assured, and knowledgeable. But most of all, be honest and be yourself. The more you can be 'unlike" Trump, the better your chances of winning.

Demonstrate that you are a good person. Talk about uniting our country, not dividing it. Talk about how we are one nation.

Define his policies with words like "adolescent", "incompetent", "unpatriotic", "incurious", and "not in our country's interests".

As some have said, we need someone like Aunt Bee, from Maybury, to go against him. It needs to be that sharp of a contrast. Under no circumstances should you get into a name-calling contest or try to out-ridicule him. He is a natural at it and you would be at a disadvantage.

The American people, Democrats and Republicans, are tired of the division and name-calling. Show them there is another way.

A note to Democrats and Republicans in Congress:

Trump will do whatever he can get away with. If there is no cop on the corner, he will rob the bank.

There is no bottom with this guy.

Do not deceive yourselves into thinking it will get better. It will not.

If you do not call this guy out, he will destroy our country.

It is more important than your seat in the House or the Senate.

Wake the hell up!
