About Me

This land is your land; This land is my land.

How deep does the corruption go?

We already know that it reaches deep into the Congress, with the Republican traitors that attempted to overthrow an election. Almost the entire Republican Party has shown itself to be corrupt, in both the House and Senate.

Does it reach into the military? We know that the Pentagon was being used by the White House during the attack upon our Capitol. The Pentagon was corrupted. Some Generals are worried that there will be a military coup in 2024. The Defense Dept was corrupted.

But, nearly every Department of government was corrupted in the last 4 years, including the State Dept and Homeland Security. The CIA and FBI were politicized for the benefit of a wannabe dictator.

It also appears that the Supreme Court, the law of the land, has been corrupted.

Big Business has been corrupt forever. They have created laws to benefit themselves and broken laws for the same purpose.

The people need a big broom to clean up the mess.

Can the Supreme Court save us from ourselves?

More to the point, will the Supreme Court save us from ourselves?

Nothing will get the attention of those denying reality more than a decision from the Supreme Court. They have the power to give the Americans the facts and the truth about the January 6th Insurrection and why it happened.

All they have to do is to declare that the Congress of the United States, the Representatives of the People, have a right to investigate a criminal act against our government.

The only thing standing between the Court and the truth is politics. The former President of the United States is calling for them to decide for him against the American people, simply because they are Republicans and the other side is trying to prosecute him. If the Congress does not have the facts, then the people will never know.

It seems like a cut and dry case.

But, is it?

Merrick Garland's Cruel Shoes

What would you do if you were in Merrick Garland's shoes?

He professes that he has no concern except to follow the rule of law. Politics is not a factor with him.

But, everything is political.

Merrick Garland is confronted with a dilemma not of his making but one of his choosing. He chose to be the Attorney General of the United States. He accepted the responsibilities of that job when he took it.

Does he wait for the Select Committee to complete its investigation before he decides whether or not to prosecute criminal activities?

Does he wait for the Supreme Court to make a ruling which will give legitimacy to his investigations and prosecutions?

Or does he weigh the political consequences of prosecuting the political leaders of one Party, further dividing the nation into warring sections? Is the prosecution of one or two Republican leaders worth the risk of tearing the country asunder?

Or does he put those concerns aside and simply follow wherever the law takes him, as he has stated in the past?

It is not an easy decision. It is a cruel and grueling decision that should have bi-partisan support. But is that possible?

What would you do if you were in Garland's shoes?

They were fleeing for their lives.

The mob was primed to kidnap and murder our elected Representatives. Both Democrats and Republicans were threatened. They wanted to hang Mike Pence. They wanted to kill Nancy Pelosi. What would have happened to Mitt Romney if he had not been directed away from the mob?

They were not protesting for some great cause. They were not protesting because they were denied any basic rights. They were not protesting for any just reason.

They were protesting for Donald Trump. They transferred his anger over losing the election to the attack upon our Capitol. Nothing more and nothing less.

Now, they want to cover it up. They want to portray it as something else. But it is what it is.

So, the question that remains is: Do we hold those responsible accountable for their actions? Or do we allow them to cover it up and to escape any accountability?

Can the country survive either of those responses?

The problem with our democracy is within the media and the "free press"?

It is not that the citizens do not get the information they need. In many instances, they get too much information. It only muddles the situation.

But with a large proportion of our citizens, they get too little information. Or they do not get the information they need.

The present crisis in our democracy is within the media. Most specifically, it is with FOX News and its progeny. Some may logically argue that it all began with right-wing radio.

It is not that FOX News does not have the information to give the people of this country, so they can make the best decisions for themselves, their families, their communities, and their country. They choose not to report it.

What began as a simple exercise in giving people an opposing viewpoint has grown into a monster that can no longer be controlled. No matter what the "liberal media" reported, FOX chose to give the opposing viewpoint. For example, if the "liberal media" reported that scientists and doctors from around the world were saying that our country and the world were under threat of a deadly pandemic, then they felt they had to report that it was a conspiracy. It was exaggerated by the left for political reasons, they told their viewers.

The present problem with our democracy can be traced to the feet of Rupert Murdoch and FOX News.

Although the "liberal media" may sometimes be wrong, they are not always wrong. To report otherwise is a recipe for disaster, as we are now witnessing.

This is why we have so many people still believing in the Big Lie, because they hear it on the only media that they watch. There is a reason so many people distrust the Covid vaccine. There is a reason so many people believe the election was "rigged". All those lies were propagated by FOX News.

Although we can look far and wide for the causes of our present constitutional crisis, we need look no farther than FOX and their philosophy about "fair and balanced" media.

THE MOUSETRAP

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.
"What food might this contain?" The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning. "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The pig sympathized but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured, you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow and said, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."
So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house. It was the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught.

The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient.

The wife's sickness continued and friends and neighbors came to sit with her. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.

The farmer's wife eventually died. So many people came to her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

The mouse looked upon this all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

The next time you hear of someone facing a problem and you think it doesn't concern you, or the next time you think tossing one or more of our democratic ideals (small d') to the side would be the best line of defense, remember: When one of us is threatened, we are all at risk.

The Pause That Refreshes

Perhaps we will all get a much-needed pause over this Christmas and New Year season?

From 1947

Back In The U.S.S.R.

Will the Supreme Court follow the lower Court and the Appellate Court with Trump's request?

Or will they begin the great cover-up?

My hope is that they will let the country put this trauma behind us and let the Justice Department do its work.

They could make a quick decision or they could decide to not take the case at all. The Committee would be free to receive the White House documents from the National Archives.

Or they could choose to be political and let it drag on and on. They could decide that the best thing for the Republican Party, not necessarily the country, would be to cover it up by making it disappear.

Folks will be watching the Supreme Court very close in the next few weeks would be my guess.
