Bruce Castor thread #327 - he's a personal injury lawyer

Bruce Castor is a magnet for controversy. Naturally, he’s Trump’s impeachment attorney.

For those who have followed Castor’s long career, the reaction was either incredulous head-shaking, or “Why, of course, Bruce.” Like his latest client, Castor is loquacious, polarizing, charming to many, equipped with a bountiful ego, sensitive to slights and almost humanly incapable of not making news.

Castor joined his latest law firm in January, his third in 13 years, weeks before landing the highest-profile case of his 35-year career. He specializes in medical malpractice, personal injury and “people falsely accused in #MeToo cases where their reputations were ruined,” Castor said.

They need to stop having Super Bowls in Tampa Bay

The Tampa Bay area is no stranger to hosting Super Bowls in uncertain times. While the nation has fond recollections of Whitney Houston's iconic national anthem at Super Bowl XXV in 1991, the area remembers something much different.

The NFL almost canceled that game due to fears of a terrorist attack, as the United States was barely two weeks into the Persian Gulf War. Concrete barriers surrounded what was then Tampa Stadium. Every fan was waved with a metal detector. There were SWAT teams, FBI agents, bomb technicians and military helicopters circling overhead.

Then, during Super Bowl XLIII in 2009, the nation was in its worst economic recession in 80 years. The total economic impact for the Tampa Bay area dropped by about $50 million compared to the two previous Super Bowls.

"I don't think anyone could have imagined that when the commissioner handed off the football to us on Feb. 3, down in Miami at Super Bowl LIV, that we could have imagined what would be in store over the following year," said Rob Higgins, executive director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission and CEO of the Super Bowl LV host committee.

"The good thing is, we're used to doing that because the last few Super Bowls we've had have been under unusual circumstances," said Santiago Corrada, CEO of Visit Tampa Bay.

Baby shower with a cannon. 💥 one dead.

Expectant parents fired a cannon to celebrate their baby shower. It exploded and killed a guest.

A Michigan couple tied balloons to the mailbox and set out a chalkboard with a hand-drawn sign announcing their baby shower on Saturday. To mark the occasion, the expectant parents in Gaines Township, Mich., fired a celebratory cannon as the small party stood outside in the snow in the backyard.

But the plan went horribly wrong when the gunpowder inside the cannon exploded, fracturing its metal frame and launching shrapnel into the air.

One piece of the cannon flew about 10 to 15 feet and struck 26-year-old Evan Thomas Silva in the chest, seriously injuring him, Michigan State Police said in a statement to WJRT on Sunday. The man, who was a friend of the hosts, later died at Hurley Medical Center in nearby Flint, Mich.

The homeowner had purchased the cannon at an auction and previously fired it on multiple occasions, MLive.com reported. Police described the device as similar to a “signal cannon,” which is often used as a novelty. The cannon should have set off a loud bang, a flash of light and a puff of smoke, police said.
