Just back from the Virginia Pride event in Richmond.

Brown's Island right in the middle of the city. Blazing hot day. No shade. No wind.
I'm a salty dog right now.

The point of this post is two fold. My wife and I signed for two candidates to get on the Virginia primary ballot.

We've been having family discussions for two weeks about this event. A lot of my daughter's friends are gay. She wanted to support them and it IS a lot of fun. My wife has been a nervous wreck about this. It really is a really open target AND it's on an island (60 yards I'd say in the river). With all the shootings she didn't want our daughter to go with friends. WE had to be there.

At first as we walked in on one of the three foot bridges I saw a police presence. I never saw them again. Now 2 hours later we are near the stage, blasting music as the drag show is going on (FUN!), and a train starts coming by. This is Richmond - the elevated train was so close you could easily throw a rock and hit it. Lots of noise. Too much noise. If IT were to happen this would be the prime time. Suddenly my heads on a swivel. Scoping everything I can think of. I can see my daughter.

I'm glad we were determined not to live in fear but sadly this is the world we live in.

My RW radio laugh of the morning

Headed to work today I flipped over to the local AM (now FM too). They have a news tease then traffic and the weather.

News tease “The Trump White House says it knows the identity of the whistle blower”

Traffic
Weather

News “The White House has said that it knows the identity of the whistle blower in the Ukrainian phone call. It’s a CIA employee who was previously posted at the White House”

I laughed out loud and blurred out “Hell! I knew THAT

Ooooo big intimidating Trump.

The DEEP STATE has been uncovered! ....it's HIM!

First he talks to Pelosi. He’s sooo sure he won her over that he releases the notes (not a transcript) of the phone call.

Then he live action role plays the call WITH Zelensky.

Now he says publicly that HE no longer considers Pelosi the Speaker of the House.

He just DEEP STATEd himself. He either is begging for the 25th Amendment to be enacted or he just took a few more steps toward Howard Hughes territory.

Yesterday was supposed to be a grand old day for him. Big UN speech, relaxing in his gilded shithole, and then he lit a paperbag of turd on fire at his own front door and the HE tried to stomp out the fire.

CNN- "Trump was in disbelief". Thought he could talk Pelosi out of it. She played him.

CNN - Trump incredulous after his moves on transparency failed to stop Pelosi

New York(CNN) President Donald Trump was incredulous Tuesday as he sat in Trump Tower and watched House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announce she was launching a formal impeachment inquiry against him, sources familiar with the moment say. Sitting in the same building where he launched his long shot presidential campaign four years ago, Trump said he couldn't believe it, he later told people.

He had felt confident after phoning Pelosi earlier that morning. The drive for impeachment in her caucus had ramped up amid reports he pushed the Ukrainian President to investigate Joe Biden, and Trump was hoping to head off a clash. He figured he could de-escalate tensions by speaking with her directly.

It was after that call that Trump made the decision to release an "unredacted" version of the transcript of his July call -- against the advice of aides such as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who warned him it would set a risky precedent. Trump wanted to undercut the argument from Democrats that he acted inappropriately, he said, and felt he had nothing to hide.

But when the announcement he would release the transcript did little to quell the growing calls for his impeachment, Trump was in disbelief.

THE BEST WORDS

Madam Speaker

Joe Biden was a private citizen

Only watching the discussion on CNN.

I am hearing Biden describe as "his political adversary".
That's not a public position. Biden held no public position at the time.

I'm still reserved on the phone call. I don't like betting and not knowing. At the same time, Trump is out of his element and his element was one where people didn't take him seriously and he fell flat on his face repeatedly.

EPA threatens to cut California's highway funding over Clean Air Act 'failure'

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is reportedly threatening to pull federal funding for highways and other transportation projects in California after the state has “failed” to submit complete pollution-control plans required by law.

According to a letter obtained by the Sacramento Bee, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler wrote to the California Air Resources Board that the state “has failed to carry out its most basic tasks under the Clean Air Act” since the 1970s. Wheeler specifically cites a backlog of reports that should detail state efforts to cut pollutant emissions under federal law.

Wheeler warned that if California fails to withdraw its “backlogged and unapprovable” reports and work with the EPA to develop complete ones, the administration could hand down sanctions that would mean cuts to highway funding and allow the federal government to develop its own plans.

In Tuesday’s letter, Wheeler writes that California “has the worst air quality in the United States,” alleging that 34 million people in California live in areas that don’t meet federal air pollution standards — “more than twice as many people as any other state in the country.”
