Welcome to DU, honeylady!

Glad you're here. Man, I hate "Lockup" too!!!!! I hate the show and the whole idea of programming it, and Prophet 451 nailed it: ridiculously cheap to produce. One camera crew and the pretty anchor recording intros and bumpers. Costs much less. Just always with the bean counters. I remember when news wasn't there to make a profit, it was there to inform and educate the public. Not anymore. And then spanone added another spot-on observation: "meanwhile... faux never sleeps." Color me not one bit surprised.

THAT is the key question. EVERYONE should be asking that.

Dreadful. Just frickin' DREADFUL. That monster walks the streets, alive and unpunished. He's assured us all that his conscience is "clear". But then again, that leads me to question whether he has one.

November 25, 2014

Actually, they don't. At least to me.

Felt as though he was trying to reach out, to be the Comforter-in-Chief. His repeated references to "your President" - "your President will work with you." "Your President will be there with you." I think that sends a subtle message. This guy has tried to reach out for six years. I'm amazed he still seems to get up in the morning with a spring in his step, with all the shit he has to step through. How despicably he's treated and disrespected. How people just love to pile on him all the time. NOTHING he does is good enough. They accuse him of everything from being weak and ineffective as a leader to being a Constitution-trampling tyrant, from spineless weasel to murderer of kittens and puppies. Just depends on what time of day it is with some of these assholes. And then you get events like these piling on, too. Too much heartbreak and turmoil and upset out there.

I was moved by his speech. And when Sharpton came on, I wanted the Rev. Al to shut up so I could keep watching the speech.

I think we need this. I think we all need to see a President who's out there, still at it. Leading. Defiant of the so-called epitaph the media wrote for him after the elections. Helping us try to make sense out of what's happened. Forward-thinking, not afraid to take a well-considered "bold" move when need be, playing the long game, and patient as a good dad when all these spoiled-brat adult-size five-year-olds throw tantrums and shit-wads but he still cares for them. I don't know how he does it every day. I was glad to hear him speaking and see him out there - a physical presence at a time when much of America is disillusioned and bereaved and bewildered. It feels almost as though he's trying to buck us up so we can all work to fix this.

But when your ship's run aground, and everyone's in a grim mood, maybe it's a good thing to have our President out there trying to offer encouragement, and a few practical things we can try doing - these civic and regional meetings and get-togethers he spoke of. Isn't that kinda what we need at the moment? Whenever there's a problem, my first reaction is - "well, what can we DO about it?" I always want to try to come up with something concrete to do or set up or build or some such. So it's encouraging to me when President Obama gets out there and tries to help lift us back up after we've been knocked on our collective ass.

Hey malthaussen! Glad you're back!

How nice that one of the things you want to do is check back in with us! How cool is that?

Perhaps as you return to activity little by little, your other powers will pep back up! Little by little, though. Don't push it too hard. Be gentle. Bit by little bit. Just stack the LEGOs.

Glad you're back. Thank you for checking in! Keep on getting better! And it's a good thing you found out about the diabetes. Better to know. Then there are things you can do about it.

=(

This just makes me hurt. This just hurts. Dammit.

Saw a comment from Congresswoman Marcia Fudge about this - I thought what she said was extraordinarily profound:

WASHINGTON, D. C. -- Congressional Black Caucus Chair Marcia Fudge on Monday categorized a Missouri grand jury's decision not to criminally charge the police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown "a slap in the face" that underscores "an unwritten rule that Black lives hold no value."
"The Ferguson Grand Jury's decision not to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the death of Michael Brown is a miscarriage of justice," said a statement from Fudge, a Warrensville Heights Democrat. "It is a slap in the face to Americans nationwide who continue to hope and believe that justice will prevail.
"This decision seems to underscore an unwritten rule that Black lives hold no value; that you may kill Black men in this country without consequences or repercussions. This is a frightening narrative for every parent and guardian of Black and brown children, and another setback for race relations in America.

"My heart goes out to Michael Brown's loved ones, and to the loved ones of all the Michael Browns we have buried in this country."

The whole damn thing just makes me ache.

Hey MrScorpio! Many hugs to you.

I'm a little surprised during all this Ferguson coverage that the Dump-On-Obama marathon slowed up a little. How 'bout that.

Grim times. Times when I, too, need DU and all the people toward whom I feel great fondness and affection. DU has kept me sane and not feeling alone and isolated - since the early months of bush/cheney. I needed it badly then. I still need it now. Glad you're here. Your wisdom is always great to have, and to read.

Welcome to DU, helpmetohelpyou.

Glad you're here. A most succinct post. I was thinking that very thing. How discouraging to know THIS is what our little ones are learning. What does that say about our country? I saw another post noting a tweet whose author said he was glad he wasn't overseas now, and having to explain this country to others. Really a glum state of affairs.

November 25, 2014

Yeah, that's the guy whose image was burned into my memory when I first saw it.

A civilian vigilante sniper with a chip on his shoulder as big as his car. Packing assault rifle and who knows what else? Disgraceful! But for him it's okay. Nothing happens.

November 25, 2014

That gets truer every day.

DANG.

November 25, 2014

Ouch!

My first thought was - I hope they took the damn war toys away. Those kids over there don't know how to play with such things safely - and NOT recklessly.

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
