*Note the time. The change that reflected reaching the 100-thousand

As MSNBC anchor Katy Tur just aptly put it - each of those 100-thousand "had names, had families, and were leading their lives."

May 27, 2020

Yep. Because we'll have to.

THAT’S the new normal. Or, the just plain old normal.

May 27, 2020

Wouldn't doubt it.

We have already seen Florida and Georgia fudge their figures. Some of the meat packing plants aren't reporting data anymore. I would NOT be a bit surprised.

Don't forget - back when this started, trump didn't want to allow those poor people on that cruise ship to dock and disembark or otherwise be taken to hospitals because he didn't want their numbers messing things up for him. He wanted those numbers to stay low! And he even said so! How's that for BRAZEN as all-get-out?

May 27, 2020

Hmmm... worked at CNN in 1982 when its offices were in a high-rise at Sunset and Vine.

Near Motown Records L.A. HQ. The most miserable summer I've ever endured, professionally. UGH!

KNBC was on the second floor. Network was one floor up. 1979-1982. I had to walk past Johnny Carson's parking place, which was right at the studio entrance, with the sign that featured his name and a star underneath it. He had to walk a few feet to get inside. I'm surprised they didn't bring a litter out to carry him in. At one point, Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" was responsible for one-fourth of all NBC's annual revenue. Twenty-five cents out of every dollar the network made came from him.

When the Delorean was parked there, you knew HE was in. But that was the path I took from the huge parking lot out there, past the mobile units for KNBC and into the building and to the elevators up to the third floor. The "Tonight Show" studios were on the ground floor as you entered the building. And there was a floor-to-ceiling likeness of Johnny Carson's face covering the wall heading into the studio, including its doorway. When you walked by there, you knew you were in Johnny's House. King Johnny.

A pretty long time ago - at least two "Tonight Show" hosts ago! I'm old.

Inching up, but I still don't think we'll reach 100,000 deaths, domestically, today. Unless there's a spike of some sort.

And of course there are discrepancies, especially in the differences between the data last night and this morning. You'll notice it in the domestic death figures. I can only surmise that overnight, figures are adjusted. AND - consider this other variable: I'm not sure WHERE these statistics were compiled, or where they originated. East coast? London or someplace else internationally? You have to remember there are time zone differences, too. Overnight to us here in the US, for the most part, is hours later than in London or Paris or Geneva or Stockholm. These particular sets of graphics represent figures compiled by Johns Hopkins University, which is located in Baltimore, MD, but that institution has worldwide connections, and worldwide data comes compiled from many different international capitols.

The Daily Dread - Tracking the spread, 5/26/20 - Governor Cuomo's Mask PSA Winner Day!

And first of all - there are TWO winners. Total votes from New York, the whole US, and around the world: 186,117 votes! First and second place - only 502 votes separated the first and second place winners. Out of 96,332 votes combined just for those top two. Governor Cuomo made his executive decision and chose them BOTH! And no Electoral College needed!

I like it!

And now to the business...

Personal note, I see just the teeniest bit of good news in the slowing rate of increase in deaths in this country, as we're all bracing for the moment we reach that dismal data point - of 100-thousand deaths in the U.S. Judging from that slowing rate of increase, we may not get to 100,000 deaths today. Hey, you take what there is.

Remember, every number you see - that's the number of PEOPLE. VICTIMS. The ailing, and the dead. And the unseen: the families, loved ones, friends of the lost ones. And how they grieve. And how they're forced to grieve in isolation. Cruel irony, considering that's how their precious grandma or grandpa, or mom or dad, or brother or sister, or son or daughter, or beloved friend or neighbor - died.

Let's not forget that. These numbers are not just mere numbers. These numbers are people. Each one of those, somebody loved - and still loves. or cared about, and still cares deeply - even while they're now parted FOREVER.

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
