About Me

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.

That's about the only message that can be taken away from this.

I couldn't believe it - but at the same time, I wasn't a bit surprised.

Trayvon didn't have a chance, OR get justice. And I fear, exceedingly, that there will be more victims like him because of this. Zimmerman's beating the rap will only give the green light to other paranoiacs who wish to be self-anointed vigilante judge/jury/executioner types. Now this murder has been justified.

Horrible.

A grim day. A very grim day.

Welcome to DU, Chiennoir54!

Glad you're here! I find it tiresome, too. I found her whole schtick tiresome. And, to be completely honest, I was jealous of all those big diamond rings she always wore while cooking. Made it impossible to concentrate on the food-preparation. Screw the cooking - can I just examine those rings?

Probably among the many who think this is all a big stupid fuss over a single word uttered

159-thousand years ago.

AND.

IT.

IS.

NOT!!!!!!!

It's about the abhorrent and appalling working environment she was warned about repeatedly and to which she turned a blind eye - because it was her brother Bubba who was accused of it - AND HE'S ADMITTED TO DOING EVERY ONE OF THOSE THINGS. Racist behavior, sexist behavior, abusive behavior, obscene behavior, watching pornography openly - IN THE WORKPLACE - in the presence of the rest of the staff (how many of them might have been under-age girls?), ordering the darker-skinned black employees to stay out of sight, use the back door, forcing himself on the female manager, threatening her, brutalizing her, it just went on and on and on and on, if you read the complaint. Just the worst Neanderthal behavior and exhibited mindset I've ever seen documented! It wasn't just one little bitty excusable thing "because that's just our Southern cuuuuuuuuuulture...," it was a mountain of things. A whole mountain RANGE of things!

It was a repeated and consistent display SO awful that I'd daresay NONE of the many many Bible-quoting whiners on the Food Network's Facebook page, referring to passages about forgiveness and non-judgmentalism when they were being the most judgmental of all, would be okay with their daughters having to work under those conditions! It was the kind of behavior that the Food Network's very own "Restaurant Stakeout" star, Willie Degel, would NOT have tolerated for a nano-second. HE would have roared into there and fired that Bubba's ass after watching just even a little bit of that!

And that she still doesn't get it (or maybe she does but she just can't admit it) - Paula, BE GONE!!!

And btw - I've seen numerous complaints about the pots and pans - registered by consumers who complain the paint comes off in the food, the bottom buckles and warps, and after a year or two, they're basically unusable - and often more of an actual health hazard.

I HOPE he's going down.

Sure seems like a cold-blooded killing to me, based on everything I've seen, heard, and read. Understanding even just a little teeny bit about this guy's mentality. Judge-jury-executioner-in-chief, one-stop-shopping, and self-anointed, to boot. All the conversation about "reasonable doubt." I just don't see ANY doubt here, reasonable or not. Trayvon Martin's "crime," it seems, was walking outside on a rainy night while black. According to this asshole who clearly seems to have concluded as much and took the law into his own hands.

But knowing how these things somehow go - I'm just hoping for manslaughter. Dear God, if this thug gets off - who's his next target? Is ANY black person safe in the neighborhood around this guy? Because he'll view this as approval of what he did. Justification for what he did. Validation of what he did. And others like him will take away that same conclusion. Which scares the livin' daylights outta me!

I live in California. This is in Florida. But I don't feel safe. There are self-anointed vigilantes everywhere. MORE innocent victims will pay for this, if George Zimmerman doesn't have to.

Welcome to DU, HoosierRadical!

Good to have you with us! Because of that damn "Stand Your Ground" law, seems as though anyone can think somebody they don't like the looks of can give them a hangnail and therefore they feel afraid for their lives. So let's shoot 'em.

That's just such a bad law! Just ripe for exploitation. How many innocent lives have been snuffed out because somebody didn't like the way they looked and prejudged their intentions because of the way they looked, and just snuffed 'em?

Nice ears, dude. Anything in between them?

Elizabeth Warren ROCKS!!!! And she's OURS!!!!!! And you can't get around her truth, kid.

The whole "American Exceptionalism" thing just bothers me to no end!

So we're supposedly above the rule of law? Nothing applies to us? We don't have to follow the rules everyone else has to follow? We can never be held accountable and even our wrongdoing isn't really wrong - and simply because we say so? Because somehow we're better than the rest of you?

Sorry, maybe some will call me anti-American for this, but I think this attitude is just completely WRONG!!!! We are ONE OF MANY members of the community of nations. For the sake of our species and the well-being and survival of our whole planet (that, like it or not, we ALL have to share), I think we have to start thinking that way! I think we just have to. I think this "American Exceptionalism" crap is just that. What it is, in reality, is asserting our license to be a rogue nation. At least to me.

And then watch the same people whining and blithering and just not getting it - "WHY do they hate us?????" Could it be because of our arrogant, cavalier behavior spurred by our self-anointed superiority complex? Dammit, we're ALL IN THIS TOGETHER! There's no time, nor is there any room, for superiority complexes. They just don't help ANYTHING, except to aggravate animosity toward us, regardless how benevolent our motivations or intentions.

Well, I'M hoping for Second Degree Murder, but I'll settle for the manslaughter charge.

It just seems so clear to me beyond a shadow of ANY doubt, and that is the way you've portrayed it here. The "punk" in this case was the guy who WAS a threat: George Zimmerman, with prejudicial profiling in his mind, malice aforethought, a rush to judgment - because for him, young + black + hoodie = nogoodnik. Automatically. He'd already decided this. Game, set, match. No ifs, ands, or buts. And he was thoughtfully willing to appoint himself judge/jury/executioner on behalf of "victims" everywhere.

HE was the thug here. HE was the attacker. HE was the stalker with malevolent intent. HE was the menace to the neighborhood. If I lived there, I'd be terrified that he's around - what if it's ME next time, knowing how this guy already has his mind made up and is willing to jump to conclusions without facts to back him up? What if his next victim is ME? It makes me think, personally speaking, that - what if a guy like that comes upon ME in the dark of night, where he thinks I'm not supposed to be, or he thinks I'm somehow acting suspiciously. And yes, I'm an older white female - probably not filling the bill of visible menace to anyone. But I'd be afraid for my life if I even SAW George Zimmerman coming my direction, knowing what I know about him! Self-appointed vigilante packin' heat, wannabe cop. WHY is it SO DAMN URGENT in the mind of this guy that he has to be some civilian gunslinger with some sort of self-anointed messiah complex or "tough-guy" Clint Eastwood/Rambo/Steven Seagal wannabe? Sheesh! What's the psychology there??? Small penis complex maybe? (Apologies - it's just me, but I've gotta concede that's directly where my mind goes in a situation like this.)

And WHY is he out there with a gun? With ill intentions and prejudicial conclusions not based on ANY facts in his mind? The very idea that a dude like this is somehow entitled to have and carry a gun is freakin' TERRIFYING to me!!!!! If he beats the rap here, how soon will he feel some sort of justification to go off again? Will he still have his entitlement to carry a gun again?

I'd feel a lot safer, on behalf of those living in that neighborhood, knowing that George Zimmerman was safely BEHIND BARS!!!

Lots of talk about "reasonable doubt." NONE here. Not a micron. At least to me.

THANK YOU!!! I have been wondering what that was all about!

Not a gamer myself. I suspected it might be because of a typo, but was never sure. Always wondered. Thanks for clearing that up!

I guess I better go check out the Urban Dictionary!

Welcome to DU, earthbot1!

Glad you're here! I find him an obnoxious no-talent, frankly. But I'm biased. I look at my kid with his band, his voice that's better than Justin Bieber's, his musicianship that's better than Justin Bieber's (does Justin Bieber even have any?), his showmanship that's better than Justin Bieber's, his work ethic that's better than Justin Bieber's, his good and humble and grateful attitude that's better than Justin Bieber's (shit - does that little snot-nose even HAVE any humility or gratitude?), and I just shake my head.
