calimary's JournalMr. Khan mentioned empathy. Anybody remember dick cheney on the subject of empathy?
He scoffed and sneered. Thought it made you look weak. And soft. Trashed it all over the Sunday shows, during the previous decade.
What a uniquely horrible man. The GOP seems to be full of them these days - as well as generally being full of "it". Look at who their certified "standard bearer" is this fall, if there's any doubt remaining at all. Birds of a feather, I guess.
Mr. Khan has now spoken about empathy, in his follow-up interviews to his heart-stopping appearance at the Democratic Convention. Mr. Khan has made empathy a valued attribute, again. Finally. cheney just shat all over the idea. Sneered at it. Jeered and laughed and turned up his nose at the very idea of being empathetic. Turned it into a negative. Made empathy a bad word, or tried to, the way his cohorts a few decades ago did with the word "liberal." Just shat all over that, too. With the same sneering tone of voice and curl of lip.
The way they win is to turn good things upside down so those things become regarded as bad. Neat strategy, 'eh?
The same for what we just saw overturned in North Carolina. Pity the political party that realizes the best (and by now probably only) way it can win - is to keep those it thinks won't vote for it FROM voting.
"The Hillary Clinton I Know" - written by a longtime progressive
Wow - I'm kinda speechless.
This was a WUNNNNNderful read, from the perspective of a longtime progressive who seems greatly and honestly sympathetic to the Bernie supporters and progressives who think they have a clear picture of who she is.
Humbly submitted. I learned some things about her that I did not know, before, too.

Hear hear!!!
Every mother grieved while watching the Khans appearance at the Democratic Convention. EVERY mother was touched. I don't think you can be a mother and NOT be touched by that. (Well, unless you're an abuser or a broken individual or otherwise sick inside, yourself, that is.) Every time I see a replay of that clip of them at the convention and her husband doing the talking, and when they were both on Lawrence O'Donnell's show Friday night - when she did speak, several times - I get choked up. Just can't help it.
Indeed. Fox did NOT cover the Khans' appearance.
I'm just glad to see how that point is being brought out. Time was, no one would even have mentioned this.
Brian Stelter on CNN's "Reliable Sources" is doing the same thing.
It's about time we start seeing this! He wouldn't let some Trump excuse-making mouthpiece get away with some of his statements, too. It's been a long time in coming. I wish journalists had had the guts to do this during bush/cheney. They didn't. They gave those bastards a free pass, a free ride, and as they say in the Monopoly game, "Free Parking", and a free trip past "Go" PLUS a free 200 dollars. NEVER questioned. Those who tried were fired, demoted, shut out. So they all learned their lesson, alright. DISGUSTING. COWARDS ALL.
I guess we ought to be grateful this is now happening, in real time. Rather than long after the fact, like the New York Times finally did, printing a somewhat limited acknowledgement that they dropped the ball, and allowed themselves to be used. No, not used. PLAYED. LIKE FUCKING VIOLINS. They were manipulated up one side of the room and down the other, and NEVER questioned, NEVER tried to drill down, NEVER. NOT ONCE. Until way after the fact. When it does no good at all. And it could have done PLENTY of good if they'd done it in real time.
Glad you brought that up, MohRokTah.
Mrs. Khan is a Gold Star Mother. And he starts picking on her. He had the gall to claim HE'S made sacrifices too????????
The Khans have made a bigger sacrifice than Donald Trump can ever even conceive in his little pea-sized lizard brain. Tony Schwartz, who ghost-wrote "The Art of the Deal", has described him as a "very damaged" human being, indeed, literally "a black hole."
On edit - I'm watching Mr. Khan emotionally defending his wife on CNN's "State of the Union" as I write this. He goes further - saying Trump has "a black soul."
BOTH he and Tony Schwartz just nail it. And nail it. And nail it. And KEEP nailing it.
It's called "rat-fucking."
And it's been going on for decades. HOWEVER, I've never heard or seen or even conceived that it would get to a level like this. I mean - this is no break-in of the DNC offices. This is no exploitive Willie Horton race-baiting campaign. This is allowing a well-known, well-documented, well-recognized adversarial foreign entity to meddle in our elections for the political gain of one of the candidates. NOBODY that I can recall ever invited the Russians to step in and stir things up on behalf of one candidate on one side. Hell, this is THE CANDIDATE HIMSELF who did the inviting! On live television!
I've never seen anything like this. It just freakin' Blows. My. Mind.
Excellent!
