I'm watching "The Pacific" for perhaps the fourth or fifth time through. Noticed something new.

The opening credits are accompanied by shots of someone creating charcoal drawings of various scenes from the miniseries. Every time they show the charcoal pencil, it is splintering and shattering. Now, I know charcoal is a very brittle medium, and splitting the point of a charcoal pencil is probably a very common occurrence.

But this time, I was imagining that the artist was a veteran of the battles being depicted. And the pain and stress of the memories was causing him to press down on the pencil hard enough to shatter it over and over.

I may be overthinking what is simply supposed to be an interesting artistic vision. But it's haunted me a little.

How's everyone doing tonight?

Two very strong Moscow Mules and a bottle of ginger beer. Feeling fine...

Hey! I just noticed I broke 40,000 posts! Hell, it only took me sixteen years.

I still marvel that there are DU-ers with over 100,000 posts. I don't know how they do it...

I saw Chris De Burgh in concert in Calgary last week. He laid into Trump pretty hard.

There was a huge international audience at the venue, and they laughed at his mockery of Trump. I don't know how many Americans were in the audience besides me and my sister and brother. But we cringed a bit.

After the show, I was able to meet CdeB's guitarist and keyboardist. I asked them to take a message back to Chris. I told them I we were from the US, and we hate Trump, too. We're embarrassed and ashamed, and can't wait for him to be gone.

Anyway, great concert. Lots of songs about the tragedy of international conflict, and about the hope of a peaceful future. Standard Chris De Burgh stuff.
