This Machine Makes Clean Water Out of Air
Two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen is all it takes.

Approximately one in ten people on the planet don't have access to clean water. Infrastructure issues affecting clean water have crept into the United States in Flint, Michigan, and concerns about water sources have become white-hot debate points surrounding oil pipelines. Fortunately, an engineer in Chile named Hector Pino has developed a system that could provide significant reliefa device that produces water by absorbing the humidity in the ambient air.

The Caribbean countries that our forefathers so ruthlessly exploited are asking for financial reparations. Lets not deepen our shame by refusing them
Friday 13 January 2017 04.00 EST
At the turn of the year, after the giving, receiving and splurging are over, eyes turn wearily to outstanding bills, upcoming liabilities and the settling of accounts. This year, thanks to Brexit, no shortage of final demands and eye-watering bills will be appearing in the nations letterbox and denial will not be an option.
In addition to the £18bn or so that the UK is thought to owe in outstanding EU spending commitments and pensions, there will also be demands marked in the deepest red that can be traced back to our imperial past, and which have been ignored for far too long.
Some 235 years ago last month, 133 African slaves bound for Jamaican sugar plantations were deliberately drowned in the Caribbean by British sailors aboard the slave ship Zong. Chained together at the ankle and weighed down with metal balls, they were cast into the deep so that the ships owners could claim compensation for cargo lost at sea.
Two weeks ago this event, known as the Zong massacre, was symbolically chosen by the Jamaican government to reassert its claim that the UK should formally apologise and make financial reparations for running a slave colony on the island for two centuries.

Killing of Colombias human rights defenders continues relentlessly
Killing of Colombias human rights defenders continues relentlessly
written by Richard Kelleher January 12, 2017
On the very day Colombias defense minister denied the existence of paramilitary groups, local media reported the assassination of three human and civil rights workers by presumed AUC successors.
A woman who worked for the Association of Farming Workers of Balboa, Cauca, was shot 4 times in the town of Robles in the same province, W Radio quoted the Southwest Colombian Human Rights Network as saying.
The victim was killed in her home, where she ran a small business providing locals with cellphone credit.
. . .
In the rural area of Caloto, also in Cauca, a peasant leader and human rights defender was ambushed by unidentified men, leaving him with three stabs wounds. He died from the sustained injuries shortly after being taken to hospital. The possibility of a robbery was ruled out.

Human Rights Court convicts Colombia for Medellin war crimes
written by Stephen Gill January 12, 2017
The Colombian state was found guilty of human rights offenses during a 2002 military operation in the countrys second biggest city Medellin by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) this week.
The government was condemned for murder and other human rights violations against five female social leaders during military operations most notably Operation Orion.
The operation was a heavy military offensive that successfully removed left-wing rebels from the densely populated western Comuna 13 area but consequently installed paramilitary groups.
The IACHR, which is based in Costa Rica, ruled that Colombias government, at the time led by former President Alvaro Uribe, was to blame for the death of human rights defender Ana Teresa Yarce, who was assassinated after publicly accusing state security forces of collusion with paramilitaries.

Brazil Neo-Nazi Claim Challenges Myth of Nation's Racial Harmony

When Brazilian police investigator Paulo César Jardim launched a series of raids on the homes of alleged neo-Nazis in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, he unveiled a bizarre plot.
The country's simmering neo-Nazi movement, with its secret world of swastikas, hate propaganda and street violence, was being recruited by rightwing extremists in Ukraine to fight against pro-Russian rebels in the European country's civil war.
Ukraine's Misanthropic Division, an extreme right group aligned with the Azov Battalion, an ultranationalist paramilitary group aligned with Kiev, was behind the recruitment drive, Mr Jardim, Brazil's foremost neo-Nazi hunter, alleged.
One person was detained along with 47 9mm pistol shells in the December raids. He was later released. Police were still investigating whether any Brazilians had already joined the fighting in Ukraine, he said, declining to elaborate further on the probe. A spokesman for the Azov Battalion - now incorporated into the National Guard - said no Brazilians had fought for it.

Before the arrival of Spanish conquistadors to the regions of Mesoamerica the indigenous civilizations of Olmec, the Mayas and the Aztecs made Empires of different identities. Mesoamerica expanded covering a vast area from the Central Mexico to Belize, Gautamala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and the Northern Costa Rica.
Mesoamerica was a region of contrasting landscapes and rich in diversity of topographical features such as snowcapped volcanoes , swamps and lowland jungles. Well-irrigated Valley of Mexico covering an area of 800,000 hectares ( two million acres) is in the Southern part of Mexico.
Tenochtitlan believed as the founder of Aztecs was known by Nahuatl, Aztecs, Mexica, and Tenochcas - the mysterious Island City of Cranes. According to the chronicler Hernando Alvarado de Tezozomoc this tribe of Mesoamerica was known as Aztecs because of their place of origin the mysterious island city of Axtlan having the meaning of White Land or the Land of Cranes.
Under the guidance of the Huitzilopochtli the Tribal God of Aztecs, they ventured on a hazardous migration across the northern landscapes before they embarked on the location destined to found their capital.

52-million-year-old relative of potatoes and tomatoes discovered in Patagonia
It's older than the Andes.
FIONA MACDONALD 9 JAN 2017
Researchers have discovered two fossils in South America of a fruit that dates back to around 52 million years ago.
The fossils could be the key to understanding how some of the most common plants today - including potatoes and tomatoes - evolved. And it turns out their genetic history might be a whole lot older than we thought.
The fossilised fruit is a berry that belongs to the Solanaceae (or nightshade) family of plants, which includes popular species such as potatoes, tomatoes, chili and bell peppers, and tobacco.
Despite how ubiquitous these plants are today all across the globe, their early history has remained mysterious, with only a few seeds found in the fossil record. So until now, we had no idea where they came from, or when.

Seeking the long-lost 'City of the Monkey God' in dense Honduras jungle

When archaeologists ventured into a thick Honduran rainforest in 2015, they were searching in an unexplored valley for the remnants of a long-lost city. Legend had it that an ancient metropolis was buried under centuries worth of jungle growth.
Deep in the forest, with the help of new technologies, scientists discovered the untouched ruins of a vanished culture.
Usually an archaeological discovery takes a long time. Theres a lot of digging, you sit around doing nothing," says Douglas Preston, who went along on the expedition. In this case, they flew over the valley with this million-dollar LIDAR machine in the plane. In three days they mapped the valley; the next day they had an image of the ground with the trees removed, and the reaction of the scientists was something Id never seen before."
. . .
The archaeologists Preston followed had the advantage of detailed survey maps to guide them to precise locations. Three years earlier, scientists had deployed advanced LIDAR (Light Imaging, Detection, And Ranging) technology to peer through the rainforest canopy to reveal a sprawling ancient metropolis.

Crimes against whites equals small percentage of hate crimes
Crimes against whites equals small percentage of hate crimes

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) The horrific beating of a mentally disabled white man in Chicago by four black assailants broadcast on social media is highlighting anti-white hate crimes at a time of increased racial strife in the United States.
But federal statistics and experts say anti-white incidents remain a smaller percentage of overall hate crimes. Anti-black hate crimes are still the largest number of cases.
According to the 2015 FBI hate crime statistics, the latest available, there were 613 anti-white-related crimes out of 5,850 total cases. That's around 10.5 percent of all reported hate crimes, and within the yearly average, federal numbers show.
By comparison, the FBI reports there were 1,745 anti-black hate crimes or about 30 percent of all reported incidents. Jews were the most targeted religious group that year and were victims of 11 percent of all hate crimes. It's not clear how many anti-Jewish hate crime victims also may have been attacked because of their race.
