What more would anyone need to justify voting for a particular candidate

besides "Trump endorses the other guy"?

Just some thoughts; not a sermon.

I recall hearing or reading a long time ago that if it was possible to "trade troubles" with others we viewed as more fortunate and if we were to all get together and toss our terrible problems into one big pile, once we saw the heartaches and tragedies and hardships others were dealing with we'd likely be happy to quietly reclaim our "terrible problem" and go home.

This struck me this morning as I was doing some yard work on a beautiful spring day and wincing a little as my rheumatoid arthritis stabbed my joints now and then. And, because I'm strange, I guess, before my self pity could get a firm hold on what passes for my mind, I thought of all the husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, children and friends who within this past year, sat at home glued to a small flickering screen while they shared the last moments of someone they could not imagine living without;someone they loved and someone they knew loved them. Or, maybe worse,---I don't know---just getting "the phone call" from an exhausted nurse whose voice cracked with shared grief as she said "I'm so sorry----__________ has passed."

My heart aches for these poor desperate folks. I don't even want to try to imagine their suffering.

And, I have RA and yard work to do.

Damn, folks! I am so blessed!

The. "non-Trump/Biden is POTUS" GOP Caucus will meet in the corner booth at Jimmy Bob's "Grub, Guns

' n Package Likker" just off the last northbound exit ramp before Chattanooga.

( Try not to be followed and watch your back! )

On the media-created issue of whether DeSantis is an irresponsible arrogant Trumpist or a wise "true

conservative" governor who ably steered Florida thru the covid quagmire---------

What in hell is there to discuss?

Seriously---

I am sometimes "rude and crude with attitude". This is one of those times.

Yes, I know this is rash: I don't think anyone who voted to overturn the last election even AFTER the January insurrection by a like-minded mob should have any voice in Congress.

These are not "poor misguided patriots"; they are TRAITORS! Why they are allowed to continue to pollute our democracy is beyond my poor ability to comprehend.

I would have opposed seating any of them.

They support the attempted coup, but oppose mask-wearing, vaccinations and social distancing. One of the poster boys for the GOP brand of fascism, Rand Paul, just mocked Dr. Fauci AGAIN for engaging in the "theater" of masking! To these arrogant primadonnas, the world is comprised of "us" and "them" and "them" includes anyone who does not think like them, talk like them and look like them. And, the icing on the cake? They are PROUD of everything I just said about them.

Why should people who do not support democracy be permitted to do their best to dismantle it?

Why should those who seek to RULE be allowed to handcuff those who seek to GOVERN?

None of these smarmy thugs deserve respect; many deserve prison time. And, businesses who support them do not deserve our patronage.

And, that's all I have to say about that.

This passes for "expertise"? Elaina Plott of the NYT just now on Morning Joe:

"We really are a 50-50 nation"----and no one questioned that.

Subtly---gradually---bullshit becomes "accepted fact".

My mind screams at such well-coiffed ignorance, which proves, I guess, what an irascible dinosaur I am.

I think that expecting McConnell and McCarthy to EVER act in a patriotic and statesman-like

manner is almost as transparently silly as it was to expect "he who shall not be named" to suddenly "pivot" and "act presidential".

Count me outta that.

Kill the filibuster, publicly invite them to participate and then roll over them if they won't get out of the way.

New "Ron Johnson" Rule: as long as the club you beat a uniformed cop with has an American

flag attached to one end, you can still qualify as a "law abiding patriot".

Apparently, there is no legally meaningful definition of "voter suppression" and, therefore, there

is no such crime. Of course, some actions which suppress voting may be crimes, but many actions which are intended to suppress voting and, in fact, accomplish just that, do not constitute crimes.

"Intentionally deceiving qualified voters to prevent them from voting is voter suppression—and it is a federal crime." That is from the FBI website.

But, passing state laws which require specific difficult and expensive to obtain ID's in order to vote is not a crime

Passing state laws which say that FOID cards are acceptable voter IDs but student IDs---even from state universities---are not is not a crime.

This situation should be changed. We need a clear federal definition of "voter suppression" and a statute "with teeth" that prohibits it by anyone anywhere.

When I asked a friend how his diet was going, he said he was "down to four".

Puzzled, I asked "Down to four WHAT?"

"Mississippis", he responded.

"What in the world are you talking about?" I demanded, still puzzled.

"Well, as soon as I've dried off when I get out of the shower, I step up onto the toilet seat and then hop off and land flat-footed in front of the mirror. Then, I count Mississippis---you know, 'one Mississippi, two Mississippis'---until everything stops jiggling. I started at six, but now I'm down to four!"
