Atticus
Atticus's JournalIt seems to me that there has seldom, if ever, been a better example of the "crab mentality"
or the "crabs in a basket" phenomenon than today's Republican "party".
If a bunch of crabs are placed in a basket, each of them is capable, individually, to use their pincers to reach up, grab onto the basket's rim and hoist themselves out to freedom. But, this does not happen.
As soon as a crab begins to pull themself up and out, the crabs below them will reach out and pull them back down. The attitiude---if crabs have attitudes---seems to be "If I haven't been able to raise myself up, I won't let you!"
Republicans can't govern. Right now, they can't govern because they are the minority both chambers of Congress and they LOST the White House. But, an argument could certainly be made that even when they are "in power", they do not govern because they have no desire to do the hard work of studying, listening, debating , proposing and passing laws which protect and serve the American public. It is so much easier to just RULE; say "to hell with all that democratic process nonsense" and just announce their rules for us to live by.
And, now, since they can't rule OR govern, they are doing their best to pull down anything that any Democrat might accomplish for the nation's benefit.
We use hammers on crabs, don't we?
Rather than answer Trump's question: "Who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt?", let's answer this one:
"Who is RESPONSIBLE for Ashli Babbitt getting shot and killed?"
Whose lies sent her to invade the Capitol?
Maybe we should have a committee investigate this!
The sea is on fire, the Southwest is about to die of thirst, the Ogalalla Aquifer is bottoming out,
glaciers are melting, islands are disappearing----and the Republicans still have there panties in a twist over who loves who, what herbs people smoke and melanin.
They are killing us.
I am 72 years old. I have always thought of climate change as a disaster that I would
leave my children and grandchildren to confront. I felt guilty that I would be dead by the time they would be suffering for my generation's ignorance, apathy and lack of political will. I no longer feel that way.
The drastic adverse effects of climate change are no longer "coming"--- they are here. Barring unexpected fatal illness, I will "share the pain" we have wrought.
After January 6th, there were bipartisan negotiations as to what the nature of a 9-11 type
investigative committee should be. McCarthy and the House Republicans brought a list of demands to the negotiations. We Democrats basically agreed to all of them.
Unable to take "yes" for an answer, McCarthy then urged his caucus to vote against the very deal he had demanded. Though 35 House Republicans voted for the special non-partisan commission, McCarthy's reversal killed any chance of Senate approval and the special commission that the Republicans had negotiated for died by their hand.
And, now, after Speaker Pelosi reluctantly elected to form a "select" committee comprised of House members, this same Minority "Leader" McCarthy has the unmitigated shameless gall to accuse her of cooking up a "partisan" commission for the purpose of smearing Trump and his disciples!
Please, folks---ANY discussion of what the Republicans are saying about the commission should be interrupted with the LOUD questions "WHAT IN HELL ARE THE REPUBLICANS TRYING TO HIDE? WHAT ARE THEY AFRAID OF?"
They have no good answers to those questions. They have no reasonable explanation for their blocking of the special non-partisan committee. Hang all of these albatrosses around their necks
Where I'm coming from about the SCOTUS: of the six "justices" who voted today to
further weaken efforts to protect our right to vote, three were appointed by an illegitimate POTUS---Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Barrett.
Of these three, the Gorsuch seat was stolen from President Obama by shameless bought-and-paid-for whores led by McConnell. Merrick Garland should be in that chair. As for Kavanaugh and Barrett, both of them joined a guy named John Roberts in 2000 to help shut down the Bush v. Gore recount in Florida.
So, three of the six votes to allow states to hamper voting were, at the least "tainted" by demonstrated prior bias and another should never have been appointed.
Is this an institution to be respected? Does respect no longer need to be earned?
Addendum: "Lots of people say" that Alito has a swastika tat on each cheek of his ass.
Having watched and listened to the Trump Oganization attorneys---one man, one woman---
lie through their teeth and whine about the "political" nature of the 15 felony counts against Weissenberg, I have just one question: how in the world do these people sleep at night?
Most are familiar with the "frog in the pot" example of how a temperature increase of just a degree
or two each day in the pot of water eventually boils the frog to death. The frog does not hop out and save himself because each increase, in and of itself, is small and insignificant. The cumulative effect of these numerous "insignificant" warnings is what eventually proves lethal.
There is a similar effect from the dozens and dozens of arrogant and totally incompetent or downright stupid Republicans who take part in our governance---and I'm not even including "the former guy".
If Louie Gohmert was an aberration, an outlier on some embarrassing outer fringe of the GOP, he could be safely laughed at and ignored. But, Louie is just one of a stampeding herd of ignoramuses that now ARE the GOP. You will recognize each of the following names and you'll agree that they are disgusting. But, you just might be terrified when you consider their cumulative effect:
(in no particular order)----
Sessions
Mnuchin
Kushner
Flynn
Pence
Miller
Johnson
Huckabee
Nunes
McCarthy
McConnell
Cruz
Paul
Cotton
Scalise
Blackburn
Foxx
Greene
Boebert
Gaetz
Barr
Gosar
Clyde
McEnany
Conway
Scaramucci
DeSantis
Kemp
Abbott
Noem
I am sure I have omitted several whose mere mention triggers your gag reflex, but the above list is sufficient to illustrate my point. While each of those are, in and of themselves, "deplorable", taken as a group which accurately characterizes the current Republican Party, they SHOULD scare the snot out of each of us!
This is NOT "normal".
These people are NOT "OK".
We do NOT have to accept this transparent hypocrisy and moral bankruptcy.
These are NOT "nice" people and we should not waste time with niceties.
The water is boiling.
