Atticus's JournalNot often enough, but every now and then, it strikes me how much I learn from reading posts on DU.
There are some superstars who consistently share articles or quotes that open up entirely new ways of thinking. But, nearly everyone who posts with any frequency broadens my narrow mind just by offering their opinions formed by their differing life experience.
Even some of those who regularly aggravate me are nonetheless sources of intelligent commentary on the things we all care about.
It was my good fortune to click on a link to DU on Bartcop's site 20 years ago.
I appreciate all of you.

Try really hard to understand the following. Read it slowly---several times. THINK about it.

WHOA!----right? Read that again. THINK about it again.
Reading blogs and posts by "people" you don't know is NOT "researching". I put "people" in quotes because some of the posts are generated by "bots"---robots--- and some of those are in Russia.
So,----read that line above again.
It's time for us to make a decision about you.
Do you REALLY believe masks are an unhealthy and unnecessary hazard, covid vaccines actually spread the Delta variant, and Trump is still POTUS---OR---are you just cowardly mean-spirited assholes?
This post has been bouncing around in my head for several weeks. I've even typed and scrapped
it a couple of times. To get right to the point, I think politically motivated violence---fists, clubs and worse---on our streets, at meetings and in parking lots is inevitable.
And, though I am a liberal Democrat who believes in letting the law deal with most forms of violence, I know that the law will not protect me and mine when some ignorant Trumpie announces he's going to "kick my libtard ass" some night as I'm unlocking my bumper-stickered car. I do not intend to "go gentle into that good night". I intend to make any attempt to kick my "libtard ass" a painful experience.
I am tired of "biting my tongue", "considering the source", and "letting it slide" when some ignoramus showers us with vulgar threats and obscene names. I am prepared to tell these cowards that if they're looking for trouble, they've found it----and then just "go with the flow".
I'm sure the above will disgust some, but it is honest.
If one were to judge America's mental health solely by how they consider who won
the 2020 election and the safety, necessity and efficaciousness of the covid vaccines, they would conclude that approximately 30% of the nation's citizens are clinically insane.
I believe many do not understand that, as far as average folks are concerned, the legal system
is dysfunctional. Simply put:
---If one of us lied to the FBI or Congress, we believe we'd be promptly prosecuted and likely imprisonment.
---If one of us had sexually assaulted someone, we believe we'd be promptly prosecuted and likely imprisoned.
---If one of us "cooked the books" we showed the tax man, we believe we'd be promptly prosecuted and likely imprisoned.
And, so, we ask: why in hell are Donald Trump and his partners in crimes still walking around free and grifting more millions?
Gee, Mr. Trump, just think: if you had walked down to the Capitol with those "patriots" like you
SAID you were going to, you could have been at the front of that crowd! And YOU could have SAVED that poor Babbit woman! As their leader, YOU could have been the one to breach that window in the door into the House Chambers and---------IT COULDA BEEN YOU!

Anyone browsing YouTube soon finds that some folks are downright obsessed with
all sorts of hobbies, animals, collectibles and pastimes. Some are nuts about making bread without yeast; some wax poetic about the heavenly roar of a vintage muscle car; some show you how to spend hours making something you can buy for a couple of bucks. Whatever. But, the number of videos in one category seems to greatly outnumber all the rest: guns.
You can choose from being told about the Five Best Pistols or the Ten Best Pistols or the Best New Pistols of 2021. Having been thoroughly educated by those, you can then watch several test firings followed by a debate about whether revolvers are more reliable/accurate/deadly than semi-automatics. Similar enthusiastic fans of rifles and shotguns offer dozens of videos exploring all of the reasons their weapon of choice will complete what they assume is your personal armory. Some just make videos in order to display the many dozens---literally---of their personal firearms and high capacity magazines.
You cannot watch and listen to these---men---without wondering when they last spoke to someone who doesn't get an erection talking about their new 44 caliber AutoMag.
Unless the For the People Bill gets passed soon, the successes of the Biden administration
will be like those "love letters in the sand" ol' Pat Boone crooned about: washed away by a tide of "legally chosen" Republicans in 2024.
Is their such a thing as a "kamikaze mentality"?
After listening to some of the anti-mask anti-vax screamers insisting---after over 610,000 American dead and exponential spread of the Delta variant---that there is "no pandemic", I wonder about this.
Do they just hate us so much that they are willing to act in a way that will kill many of them and their families?
Do they see thousands of their deaths as a way to "own" us?
What, if anything, is happening with the For the People Act? It seems to have been put on the back
burner while Republicans are re-gerrymandering and carving away large chunks of our democracy with laws to suppress the vote and toss out any Democratic success.
I'd be happy to hear that I am mistaken.
