They say that the coverup is worse than the crime,

I find it hard to imagine a worse crime than the attempted overthrow of a democratically elected government, especially when people died during the attempted coup.

How can I join the Underground Railroad?

I live in deep blue Massachusetts, where our (pro choice) Republican governor issued an executive order to protect patients and providers. Reproductive health care is safe here and our medical facilities are first-rate. I expect that women will be traveling to Mass to obtain the care they cannot get at home. I have a spare bedroom, and am willing to offer it to any woman who needs it.

What will it take to get meaningful gun reform through Congress and on the President's desk?

I don't know the answer, but here's a clue. The last time it happened was when Congress passed the Brady Bill. I'm not saying there's a cause-and-effect relationship here, but the Brady Bill was enacted after John Hinkley, Jr. shot Republican President Ronald Reagan. Is that what it will take? I shudder to think.

Happy 420!

Smoke 'em if you got 'em. Unless you prefer edibles, that is.

I am home.

As it turns out, the bacteria is the type which responds well to oral antibiotics, and the particular antibiotic which was prescribed is effective on bone infections. The visiting nurse came today and changed my dressing. I have the meds I need. It is so good to be home, and to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am so grateful for the love and support from the DU community. Thank you all.

Hospital update

It appears that the MRI, which showed no evidence of bone infection was wrong. The surgeon took a sample and sent it to the lab for culture. It will take a couple of days to know which bacteria is the culprit. I have been presented with two options, depending on the strain of bacteria. (1): Lose the toe, and all that it means. (2): Undergo a six-week course of tailored antibiotics in hopes of killing the infection and saving the toe.
Neither appears to be a good option. For now, it's wait and see.

Thanks to all who replied to my original post.

In the hospital

It started last December with a bleeding callous under my big toe. I went to the local VA urgent care where they examined me. I was prescribed 30 days of 1000mg Amoxicillin. and the wound was dressed. The next week the VA Podiatrist called to set up an appointment. He examined the wound, looked at the X-rays, prescribed a topical antibiotic and showed me how to dress the wound. We set up a follow up appointment two weeks later, at which time he was pleased with the result. He suggested a follow up in April. By this time, I had taken all of the pills, but continued to use the ointment and to redress the wound daily.
Last week, the toe started to hurt, mostly a nagging pain, but intermittingly a sharp, stabbing pain. Sunday night, while preparing for bed I noticed that the toe was severely swollen. Monday morning I went to urgent care again, where after examining me, they sent me to the nearest civilian hospital. Yesterday the surgeon took out a shot glass worth of pus, exposing the tip of the bone. Now I'm waiting for the doctors to decide the next course of action. I don't want to lose the toe, but either way, it looks like a long road ahead for me.

Some thoughts about the Russian plan to conscript protesters

Since they already disagree with Putin about the war, how effective will they be as soldiers? I suspect that the plan is to send them to the front lines, with little to no training. How many do you think we'll see surrendering as soon as they encounter the Ukrainian army? I would not be surprised to see them surrender without firing a shot.

TFG would be a tragic hero,

Except for the tiny, niggling fact that there is absolutely nothing heroic about him. Nothing. Nada. Zilch point shit.
