Andy King Files Lawsuit After Being Expelled From NYC City Council

NY1 News

For the first time in decades, the City Council voted to expel one of its own on Monday — Bronx Councilman Andy King, who was accused of sexual harassment and misusing Council resources.

Before the 48-2 vote, King gave a rambling half-hour speech, pleading with his colleagues to vote the other way.

After they didn't, King filed a lawsuit in Manhattan federal court alleging he was a victim of unlawful conduct in the workplace and racial discirmination.

...snip...

King also went so far as to cite Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas—who faced accusations of sexual harassment himself during his confirmation to the high court in 1991—calling the process a “high tech lynching orchestrated by my political enemies to satisfy their agenda.”

Fed chair warns of economic tragedy if America can't control the coronavirus

Source: CNN

New York (CNN Business)America is on the long road to economic recovery from the pandemic recession, but dark clouds remain on the horizon.

One major risk to the economy is that a renewed rise in infections might again "more significantly limit economic activity, not to mention the tragic effects on lives and well-being," said Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell Tuesday at the National Association for Business Economics annual meeting.

"Managing this risk as the expansion continues will require following medical experts' guidance, including using masks and social-distancing measures," he said.

Powell reiterated his calls for more fiscal stimulus, aimed at supporting America's most vulnerable. He said the risks of Congress pouring too much stimulus into the economy are far lower than the risk of not doing enough. Stimulus negotiations have been in gridlock for months.

Lincoln Project launches $1M offensive against Trump in Texas

Source: The Hill

The Lincoln Project on Tuesday launched a $1 million campaign against President Trump in Texas as Election Day looms.

The Republican anti-Trump group is targeting Hispanic and female voters in the Lone Star State, where polls show a competitive race between the president and Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

Mike Madrid, co-founder of The Lincoln Project, said Trump has "dramatically accelerated” Texas’s move to becoming a swing state.

“The polling data is undeniable and has been consistent for months -- Republican voters are leaving Trump and Democrats are historically energized to turn him out of office,” he said in a statement. “We see an opportunity in Texas and we are going to take advantage of it.”

Campaign spokesman says Trump has 'led' on mask-wearing

Source: The Hill

Trump campaign spokesman Hogan Gidley insisted Tuesday morning that President Trump has “led” on the issue of mask-wearing, defending Trump amid criticism after the president removed his mask at the White House while infected with the novel coronavirus on Monday evening.

“This president has led on the issue at every single turn and right now is no different,” Gidley said Tuesday on Fox News when asked whether Trump’s messaging on health precautions would change after battling the virus himself. “He pulled out a mask at the debate and said, 'Here, I have mine, I wear mine, we socially distance inside the White House.' ”

Gidley also insisted that Trump was talking about mask-wearing in late March and that he was present when administration health officials announced new, updated guidance encouraging all Americans to use masks to prevent the spread of the virus. He took issue with the media coverage of Trump’s rhetoric on mask usage.

Gidley also noted that the science on masks has shifted; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the new guidance in April after evidence showed masks were key to preventing the asymptomatic spread of the virus.
