Judge holds off on ruling on Madison's 'Democracy in the Park' plan

MADISON - A judge held off Friday on issuing an assurance to voters that absentee ballots collected in Madison parks this fall will be counted.
State and local officials have said the ballot-collecting plan is appropriate and legal, but Republican lawmakers have questioned its validity.
At issue is the "Democracy in the Park" events that Madison is putting on to help people with voting.
At them, poll workers stationed in more than 200 locations around the liberal city are available to accept absentee ballots that voters have received through the mail; show voters how they can request absentee ballots; or help them register to vote.

Utah still hosting VP debate despite President Trump testing positive, official says

SALT LAKE CITY The University of Utah will hold Wednesdays vice presidential debate as scheduled, even though President Donald Trump has tested positive for COVID-19, the campus official overseeing the event told the Deseret News.
Were going ahead, Jason Perry, U. vice president of government relations and chairman of the campus debate steering committee, said Friday. A statement is expected soon from the Commission on Presidential Debates.
We are working closely with the Commission on Presidential Debates and with our health professionals to ensure the VP debate is safe for all participants, Perry said. We are still moving forward.
Vice President Mike Pence and the Democratic nominee, Sen. Kamala Harris of California both of whom have tested negative for the deadly virus will participate in a 90-minute debate at Kingsbury Hall that begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren indicted in felony campaign finance fraud

ROCHESTER, NY Mayor Lovely Warren has been indicted on two felony campaign finance charges, Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley announced Friday.
The first charge is for first-degree scheme to defraud; the second is an election law offense for illegally coordinating activities and expenditures.
The grand jury indictment is connected to Warren's 2017 mayoral re-election campaign. Warren has adamantly refused any wrongdoing in the matter.
Warren will be arraigned at 4 p.m. Oct. 5 in front of Cayuga County Judge Thomas Leone. She did not provide immediate comment Friday.

In one clip from the grand jurys second day of presentation, a detective with the Office of the Attorney Generals Department of Criminal Investigations describes an interview he conducted with Summer Dickerson, who was living near Taylors apartment at the time of the shooting.
Dickerson, he said, heard the shooting and called 911. After she hung up with the dispatcher, she recognized an officer on-scene and asks what happened. Some drug-dealing girl shot at the police, the officer responded, according to the detective, who says the interaction was captured on Dickersons Facebook Live.
Dickerson asks if hes sure. He confirms and repeats: Some drug-dealing girl shot an officer.
