Florida official tells offices to disregard DeSantis order to lower flags in Limbaugh's honor

Source: The Hill

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D) on Monday said that she will direct offices under her purview to disregard Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) order to lower flags to half-staff to commemorate the late conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

“Lowering to half-staff the flag of the United States of America is a sacred honor that pays respect to fallen heroes and patriots. It is not a partisan political tool. Therefore, I will notify all state offices under my direction to disregard the Governor's forthcoming order to lower flags for Mr. Limbaugh – because we will not celebrate hate speech, bigotry, and division,” Fried said in a statement Monday.

“Lowering the flag should always reflect unity, not division, and raising our standards, not lowering them,” she added. “Our flags will remain flying high to celebrate the American values of diversity, inclusion, and respect for all.”

Fried was elected to office independently of DeSantis and has been a frequent critic of the governor.

Muni rolls out free rides for people traveling to get COVID-19 vaccine, joining BART, AC Transit

Source: Mass Transit

Feb. 19—The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency will offer free transportation for people traveling for their COVID-19 vaccine, Mayor London Breed announced Friday.

Starting Tuesday, people getting a vaccine at any of the city's mass or neighborhood sites, Department of Public Health clinics, pharmacies offering vaccinations or any other sites outside of San Francisco can ride for free. All they need to show is proof of their appointment, which could be a photo or email, or vaccination card.

Paratransit rides will also be free to and from vaccination sites within the city's service area.

Giving free rides supports the city's goals of getting San Franciscans vaccinated as soon as possible and making sure sites are equitable and accessible by public transportation, Breed and SFMTA director Jeffrey Tumlin said in a press release Friday.

NYC Mayor says Wollman and Lasker rinks in Central Park will stay OPEN

NYC Mayor says Wollman and Lasker rinks in Central Park will stay OPEN and Trump Organization will remain the operator

The Wollman and Lasker rinks will not be closed after all, with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio suddenly folding to pressure to keep the ice rinks open.

Sunday was destined to be the last day of the season the rinks would be open in Central Park.

The mayor wanted to shut them down because they are run by the Trump Organization, whose contracts he has been trying to cancel in the wake of the Capitol riot.

Some viewed the move as being vindictive towards Donald Trump, who feuded with his former home city throughout his presidency.

De Blasio spends far too much time on symbolic gestures that don't actually pan out.
