The Space Force knows their pants look terrible

Task & Purpose

The U.S. Space Force has some of the brightest minds in the military working to keep American satellites safe overhead, but it needs a little more time to work out something closer to home: pants.

Ever since the newest branch of the armed forces unveiled its prototype service dress uniform last month, onlookers have been lambasting the Space Force for taking too many cues from science fiction franchises like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica.

“The Battlestar uniforms were so much better than this shit,” wrote one commenter on the Air Force subreddit.

“Star Trek did it better,” wrote another.

Motion filed to block Florida's new congressional maps in upcoming elections

Source: WCJB

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCJB) - Voting rights organizations are asking a judge to stop the congressional district map signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis last week from being used while litigation continues.

The motion for a temporary injunction filed was filed on Tuesday. It argues the new map, which broke up the former district five in North Central Florida, violates the state constitution.

The plaintiffs claim the new map violates the “Fair Districts Amendment” which prohibits districts from being drawn to place political parties or minority groups at a disadvantage.

Democratic Rep. Al Lawson currently holds the seat. He says the new map will dilute the representation of African Americans in North Florida. DeSantis, who drew the new map, called the old district a “racial gerrymander” for linking minority communities in Jacksonville and the Florida Panhandle.

Trump-backed Nebraska Gov candidate Charles Herbster set up account on cheating site Ashley Madison

An email address linked to Charles Herbster, embattled Republican Nebraska governor candidate who is backed by Donald Trump, was used to set up an account on the cheating website Ashley Madison, DailyMail.com can reveal.

The address was among millions released by hackers in 2015.

The revelation will increase scrutiny of Herbster's troubled campaign after a GOP lawmaker accused him of groping her, and seven other women subsequently made similar allegations.

In a lawsuit lodged last Friday, Herbster said the accusations 'lack even a shred of credibility' and have damaged his reputation.

Pro-Bernie group endorses in key Dem Senate primary

Politico

A Bernie Sanders-aligned group is throwing its weight behind underdog Tom Nelson in Wisconsin’s closely watched Democratic Senate primary.

The endorsement from Our Wisconsin Revolution, which was first shared with POLITICO, gives a much-needed adrenaline shot to Nelson’s campaign and could help validate his claim that he is the true progressive in the race.

The nod is a sign that Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, the Democratic frontrunner who is also running as a liberal, faces dissatisfaction from some progressive activists as he distances himself from the far left in advance of the general election. Sunrise Wisconsin, a left-wing organization of young people aiming to stop climate change, endorsed Nelson over Barnes as well.

“He has a strong stance on Medicare for All,” said Andre Walton, executive director of Our Wisconsin Revolution, of Nelson. “He is a very staunch ally for the labor movement, and his stance on environmental policy is extremely strong. He believes in the Green New Deal.”

Nelson is in low single digits in WI-SEN-D polling.

Ukraine war to cause biggest price shock in 50 years - World Bank

BBC

The war in Ukraine is set to cause the "largest commodity shock" since the 1970s, the World Bank has warned.

In a new forecast, it said disruption caused by the conflict would contribute to huge price rises for goods ranging from natural gas to wheat and cotton.

The increase in prices "is starting to have very large economic and humanitarian effects", Peter Nagle, a co-author of the report, told the BBC.

He said "households across the world are feeling the cost of living crisis".

"We're particularly worried about the poorest households since they spend a larger share of income on food and energy, so they're particularly vulnerable to this price spike," the senior economist at the World Bank added.

Bitcoin becomes official currency in Central African Republic

Source: BBC

The Central African Republic (CAR) has approved Bitcoin as legal tender - just the second country to do so.

CAR is one of the world's poorest countries, but is rich in diamonds, gold and uranium.

It has been wracked by conflict for decades and is a close Russian ally, with mercenaries from the Wagner Group helping fight rebel forces.

Lawmakers voted unanimously to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, said a statement from the CAR presidency.

House Democrats vote to remove Filler-Corn as leader (Virginia)

Richmond Times-Dispatch

The Virginia House Democratic Caucus voted via secret ballot on Wednesday to remove former Speaker of the House Eileen Filler-Corn as the party's leader in the House, according to two sources.

The vote came four months after Republicans won for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general and took control of the House of Delegates.

Del. Don Scott Jr., D-Portsmouth, led the effort to topple Filler-Corn, D-Fairfax.

The vote marks a stunning fall for Filler-Corn, who in January 2020 became the first woman to serve as speaker of the House in the chamber's more than 400-year history.
