My first COVID-19 haircut

Boston Globe

A woman with glossy curls and a pink jumpsuit held a temperature gun to my forehead as I stood on the threshold of a hair salon in Cambridge early Monday morning.

If all went according to plan, I was going to be the first customer at Le Petit Salon Curl Concept since Governor Charlie Baker allowed barbershops and salons to reopen across the state. I hadn’t entered a building other than my home or a grocery store for the past few months, and suddenly I felt nervous — what if I registered a temperature? But soon the thermometer blinked green and I was ushered inside. I felt a small thrill of excitement. A new building!

Teo Sorce, 48, the owner, wore black stiletto boots that matched her black latex gloves. She was enthusiastic about being back, but also daunted by what lay ahead: the endless hours of spraying down, washing, and sanitizing that now makes up running a salon.

“If you think about how many steps I have to do!" she said. She sat me at the far end of a row of empty chairs and surveyed the situation on my head.

UK minister resigns over Dominic Cummings' lockdown trip

Source: Politico

LONDON — A junior minister in Boris Johnson's government resigned on Tuesday over top aide Dominic Cummings' alleged breach of the U.K.'s lockdown guidelines, saying he could not "in good faith" tell his constituents that the advisers' actions were justifiable.

Douglas Ross, under secretary of state for Scotland, wrote to Johnson saying that the public reaction to reports of Cummings' 260-mile drive from London to Durham in late March demonstrated that the adviser's "interpretation of the government guidance was not shared by the vast majority of people who have done what the government asked."

His is the first resignation in connection with the issue and will increase pressure on Johnson, who has faced calls to sack Cummings from opposition parties and from at least 20 Conservative MPs.

Ross added: "I have constituents who didn't get to say goodbye to loved ones; families who could not mourn together; people who did not visit sick relatives because they followed the guidance of the government. I cannot in good faith tell them they were all wrong and one senior adviser to the government was right."

My Covid test was, as expected, negative

Usual provisos about the possibility of false negatives, but I didn't have any symptoms other that a sore throat which is prospectively due to allergies (has the same condition in the Fall, long before Covid got here.

Meet the Libertarian Party candidate for VICE President (seriously!)

In an apparent bid for "Party unity", Presidential candidate Jo Jorgensen has picked Vermin Supreme's running mater, Spike Cohen:

Tired of the government telling you what to do?

Do you live in a city requiring ridiculous and worthless cloth masks?
Now’s your chance to stand up!

Let everyone know that cloth masks are worthless, and you aren't going to let your freedoms be stripped away due to fear and panic.

Make a statement with our "This mask doesn't do Sh*t" Printed mask. This mask is a great conversation starter. You'll almost be able to see the grin and envy behind every other mask wearing covididiot out there! They come printed with the American Flag on the other side. The mask is also reversible in the off chance you get tired of all the attention and compliments on how awesome your mask is.

What others don't do is start with the regulatory info, but here it is (and no fine print that you cant read!)

We have to tell you this because these masks do not actually protect you or anyone else from Covid or any other virus/bacteria, even though you might be required to wear them in many places.

These masks are not medical grade and are not to take the place of the N95 masks or respirators. They are not suitable for use in a surgical setting or where there would be significant exposure to liquid, bodily or other hazardous fluids, use in a clinical setting, or use in the presence of a high-intensity heat source or flammable gas.

These masks are not a respiratory protective device, and therefore should not be used for particulate filtration.

Our cotton face mask consists of two layers of cotton French Terry. These masks are both reusable and reversible. We specially designed them to be super comfortable for easy and longer wear.

Made in the USA.

Jo Jorgensen Wins Libertarian Party Presidential Nomination

Source: Reason

In a day-long virtual meeting, after four ballots, the 1,035 delegates assembled for the Libertarian Party's online convention selected Jo Jorgensen as their presidential candidate.

She won with slightly over 51 percent of the vote (not every delegate voted in every round) on that fourth ballot, with 524 votes. Jacob Hornberger came in second, with nearly 28 percent of the vote. Vermin Supreme came in third, with 20 percent of the final vote.

Reason ran an interview with Jorgensen, a lecturer in psychology at Clemson who was the party's vice presidential candidate on a ticket with Harry Browne in 1996, on Thursday.

The party's voting procedure involved six candidates officially in nomination: Jorgensen, Jacob Hornberger, Vermin Supreme, John Monds, Judge James Gray, and Adam Kokesh. (Members could vote for other people if they wanted, or for none of the above, and many did.)
