Inside the Capitol Riot: An Exclusive Video Investigation
Source: New York Times
Even now, however, Republican politicians and their allies in the media are still playing down the most brazen attack on a seat of power in modern American history. Some have sought to paint the assault as the work of mere tourists. Others, going further, have accused the F.B.I. of planning the attack in what they have described wildly as a false-flag operation.
The work of understanding Jan. 6 has been hard enough without this barrage of disinformation and, hoping to get to the bottom of the riot, The Timess Visual Investigations team spent several months reviewing thousands of videos, many filmed by the rioters themselves and since deleted from social media. We filed motions to unseal police body-camera footage, scoured law enforcement radio communications, and synchronized and mapped the visual evidence.
What we have come up with is a 40-minute panoramic take on Jan. 6, the most complete visual depiction of the Capitol riot to date. In putting it together, we gained critical insights into the character and motivation of rioters by experiencing the events of the day often through their own words and video recordings. We found evidence of members of extremist groups inciting others to riot and assault police officers. And we learned how Donald J. Trumps own words resonated with the mob in real time as they staged the attack.
Here are some of the major revelations.

New York Times Exclusive: Inside the Capitol Riot: An Exclusive Video Investigation
New York TimesIn the six months since an angry pro-Trump mob stormed the U.S. Capitol, immense efforts have been made not only to find the rioters and hold them accountable, but also and perhaps more important to dig into the details of Jan. 6 and slowly piece together what actually happened that day.
Congressional committees have looked into police and intelligence failures. The Justice Department has launched a nationwide investigation that has now resulted in more than 500 arrests. And while Republicans in Congress blocked the formation of a blue-ribbon bipartisan committee, House Democrats are poised to appoint a smaller select committee.

Wall Street powers through the first half of 2021 with U.S. stocks at record highs
Source: Washington Post
Wall Street wrapped up the first half of the year at record highs, defying pessimistic projections of a broader pullback and pushing past concerns of rising inflation and future rate hikes from the Federal Reserve.
The Dow Jones industrial average advanced more than 210 points, or 0.6 percent, to close at 34,502.38 on Wednesday. The S&P 500 edged up 5.68 points, or 0.1 percent, to 4,297.48 and chalked up its 34th record close of the year. The tech-heavy Nasdaq dropped 24.38 points, or 0.2 percent, to end the session at 14,503.95.
Even with such mixed results, U.S. markets have swelled during the first half of the year, a period that saw a new president move into the White House, a shift in power on Capitol Hill, and the continuing shocks of the coronavirus pandemic.

NYC Mayor: Adams campaign files lawsuit in wake of elections board fiasco
PoliticoEric Adams' mayoral campaign has filed a preliminary lawsuit a day after the city's Board of Elections put out erroneous results for the first run of ranked-choice votes.
Today we petitioned the court to preserve our right to a fair election process and to have a judge oversee and review ballots, if necessary," the campaign said in statement issued Wednesday. "We are notifying the other campaigns of our lawsuit through personal service, as required by law, because they are interested parties. We invite the other campaigns to join us and petition the court as we all seek a clear and trusted conclusion to this election.
The erroneous results posted Tuesday have sown further uncertainty into the electoral process on the heels of New York's first citywide, ranked-choice primary.
The elections board is expected to release new results Wednesday after including 135,000 mock ballots from a pre-election test run of the ranked-choice tabulation software. The results will be preliminary as roughly 124,000 absentee ballots will not be counted until next week.

The NYC Board of Elections is "Bi-partisan", not "NON-partisan"...
There are 10 commissioners, one Republican and one Democrat from each Borough, appointed by the County Party Chairs.
I applied for a job as en election worker, and was told that priority was given to people recommended by the Party District Leaders. It explains a lot.....

When I took Urban Studies classes, they taught us about "clean graft"....
...which, applied to any historic political machine, says that ALL OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL (work needing to be done, competence of the worker, cost, etc.) hire your nephew.
This concept does not appear to apply to the NYC Board of Elections.....

Board of Elections 'Discrepancy' Puts Mayoral Primary Vote in Disarray
New York TimesThe New York City mayors race plunged into chaos on Tuesday night when the city Board of Elections released a new tally of votes in the Democratic mayoral primary, and then removed the tabulations from its website after citing a discrepancy.
The results released earlier in the day had suggested that the race between Eric Adams and his two closest rivals had tightened significantly.
But just a few hours after releasing the results, the elections board issued a cryptic tweet revealing a discrepancy in the report, saying that it was working with its technical staff to identify where the discrepancy occurred.
The board would not elaborate on the nature of the discrepancy; Valerie Vazquez-Diaz, a spokeswoman for the board, said only that it was related to the difference in votes cast between what was disclosed on primary night and on Tuesday.
