Canada sets record temperature of over 114 degrees amid heat wave, forecasts of even hotter weather

Source: Washington Post

Lytton, a village in British Columbia, became the first place in Canada to ever record a temperature over 113 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday — and experts are predicting even hotter weather to come.

The temperature in Lytton soared to just under 115 degrees Sunday, according to Environment Canada, a government weather agency.

As The Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang noted, that’s just one degree lower than the city record in Las Vegas. The previous records for hottest temperature, both 113 degrees, were set in Yellow Grass and Midale in Saskatchewan on July 5, 1937.

“It’s warmer in parts of western Canada than in Dubai. I mean, it’s just not something that seems Canadian,” Environment Canada senior climatologist David Phillips told CTV News on Saturday.

Andrew Giuliani releases poll claiming lead in GOP race to take on Gov. Cuomo

New York Post

Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani’s son, Andrew, leads GOP rival Rep. Lee Zeldin by eight points in the race to take on scandal-scarred three-term Democratic incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo next year, according to a poll commissioned by Giuliani’s campaign.

The survey results of 587 Republicans statewide, performed by Triton Polling & Research on June 24-25 and provided to The Post, shows Giuliani with the backing of 35.2 percent of Republicans compared to 27.2 percent for Zeldin — an eight point lead — with 6 percent support for another candidate and 31.6 percent of voters undecided.

The survey, conducted via automated calls on landlines to likely Republican voters, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Five blocks from my house is the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway...

Inspections have identified severe deterioration, brought out in part from exposure to salt air.

Repairs have been delayed for years, but will occur "eventually".

Sound familiar?

There's plenty to dislike about Ron DeSantis: the Miami building collapse isn't one of them...

The building was constructed in the 1990s, when Florida had Democratic Governors.

The requirement to repair substandard buildings is generally a statute of the local Government (in this case the City of Miami).

Not clear what role the State would have in this issue.

Sweden's prime minister resigns after losing no-confidence vote

Axios

Sweden's Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, head of the Social Democratic Party, resigned Monday after losing a no-confidence vote last week and declining to call for snap elections.

The state of play: Löfven will remain as head of Sweden's caretaker government as the parliament speaker begins the process of asking party leaders to attempt to form a new governing coalition.

The political situation in Sweden is likely to remain deadlocked, as Löfven had already been leading a minority government after the 2018 election left no party with a majority.

The Social Democrats had relied on votes from the Left Party, which withdrew its support after a clash over proposed housing market legislation.

'Utterly Deranged' Trump Has Full Meltdown Over Bill Barr, Mitch McConnell

Source: Huffington Post

Donald Trump issued a lengthy and rambling statement late Sunday attacking two of his staunchest allies during his one term in office.

Trump called former attorney general Bill Barr and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell “spineless RINOs” (Republicans in Name Only) after Barr told The Atlantic that Trump’s constant claims of election fraud were “bullshit.” Barr also told the magazine that McConnell urged him to “inject some reality” into Trump as he repeated debunked claims of election fraud and baseless conspiracy theories last winter.

McConnell confirmed that account, the magazine reported. That was enough to trigger the former president.

Trump, who once claimed he would hire only “the best and most serious people,” called Barr a “disappointment in every sense of the word,” much as he has attacked many of the other “best people” he hired, including Jeff Sessions (attorney general), Rex Tillerson (secretary of state), James Mattis (defense secretary) John Bolton (national security advisor), H.R. McMaster (national security advisor) John Kelly (homeland security and chief of staff) and Mike Pence (vice president), just to name a few.

"You can't fucking talk to me like that!"

Politicalwire

Axios has a passage from the forthcoming book, Frankly, We Did Win This Election, from the Situation Room during the Black Lives Matter protests last summer.

Trump had announced he had put Joint Chiefs chairman Mark Milley “in charge.”

TRUMP: I said you’re in fucking in charge!

MILLEY: Well, I’m not in charge!

TRUMP: You can’t fucking talk to me like that!

MILLEY: Goddamnit. There’s a room full of lawyers here. Will someone inform him of my legal responsibilities?

BARR: He’s right, Mr. President. The general is right.
