Finland School Attack Kills 1 and Injures Several, Police Say

Source: New York Times

An attack on Tuesday at a vocational college in a shopping center in Finland killed one person and injured 10 others, the police said. A witness told Finnish news outlets that the attack had been perpetrated by a man with a sword.

The suspect was among the injured and was taken to a hospital, the police said on Twitter. They added that the attack happened at Savo Vocational College, which is at a shopping center in Kuopio, a city in central Finland.

One witness told the Finnish outlet MTV News that a teacher at the school was bleeding after being injured by a student with a sword.

The police said the suspect, a Finnish citizen, used a bladed weapon in the attack and was also armed with a gun.

Buttigieg posts strong third-quarter cash haul, but falls short of Q2 high mark

Politico

Pete Buttigieg, who was the top fundraiser in the Democratic presidential primary from April through June, brought in another $19.1 million in the last three months.

Buttigieg's haul is expected once again to be among the highest Democratic totals this quarter. But the South Bend, Ind., mayor’s most recent take did not hit the high mark he set in the second quarter, when he led the field with $24.8 million raised.

During the third quarter, the Buttigieg campaign said it has 580,000 total contributors, a jump of about 182,000 new contributors since the previous quarter. The average contribution during the fundraising period was $32. Buttigieg’s campaign did not release a cash on hand total.

“Pete continues to stand out as having the vision and leadership voters know we need to tackle the urgent problems facing our country. It also positions us solidly as one of the top three fundraisers in this race,” said Mike Schmuhl, the Buttigieg campaign manager, in a memo released Tuesday morning. “We will have the resources to go the full distance, and to win, the 2020 nominating contests.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders raised $25.3 million in third quarter, campaign says Add to list

Washinton Post

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) raised $25.3 million during the past three months for his White House bid, his campaign said Tuesday, fueled by an army of low-dollar donors to post the largest quarterly haul so far this year among the Democratic presidential contenders.

Sanders transferred an additional $2.6 million from his other federal campaign accounts, the campaign said.

The third-quarter figures announced by the campaign rival his $26 million haul at this point in the primary campaign in 2015, when he stunned the Democratic field by nearly matching the total of his opponent, Hillary Clinton, with an infusion of money from donors giving less than $200. Yet this time, he is facing more than a dozen opponents.

One of them, South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, announced early Tuesday that his campaign raised more than $19.1 million in the third quarter — less than Sanders did but an amount that gives him staying power in a crowded field.

Another top Trump official caught busted using private email server for government business

Source: Raw Story

On Saturday, The Washington Post reported Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is escalating a wide-ranging investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails.

The administration is conducting no such investigation into senior administration officials using private emails for public business.

The latest to be caught in the Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.

“The House Oversight Committee is investigating Ross on multiple fronts. Committee Chairman Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) sent a letter to Ross on Sept. 9 that scolded him for stonewalling an inquiry into his potential conflicts of interest,” The Washington Post reported Monday. “So perhaps it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Ross has used private email to conduct government business.”

CNN Poll: Support for impeaching Trump rises among independents and Republicans

Source: CNN

Americans are about evenly split over impeaching President Donald Trump and removing him from office, as support for that move has risen among independents and Republicans, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS after the announcement of a formal impeachment inquiry by House Democrats last week.

About half, 47%, support impeaching the President and removing him from office, up from 41% who felt that way in a CNN poll in May. The current level matches the high point for impeaching Trump in previous CNN polling -- 47% said they felt that way in September 2018.

The share who favor impeachment and removal from office now narrowly outpaces the share who say they don't feel that way -- a first in CNN polling -- although the two figures are within the poll's margin of sampling error. Opposition stands at 45% in the new poll, down from 54% who said so in May and the lowest point in CNN polling on this topic.

The change since May has largely come among independents and Republicans. About three-quarters of Democrats favor impeaching Trump and removing him from office, roughly the same as in May, while among independents, support for impeachment and removal has risen 11 points to 46% among independents and 8 points to 14% among Republicans.
