A Good Catholic Joke...

Free to good home...

One slightly used political whore. Answers to the name of "Baron Harkonen." History of abuse and bad diet.

First come, first bitten.

I'm not all that worried about whether or not Oprah is ready for the presidency...

After all, the election of Cheetolini pretty much killed that argument. The most groundbreaking thing he's done was to destroy the time-worn premise that non-politicians can't become US presidents.

He became one in spite of his utter unfitness for public office. In a way, however, he's pretty much made our political system no more than a sick joke. But be that as it may, any argument that Oprah shouldn't be elected president because she's never held public office before is now moot.

Not to say that it wouldn't be a great idea for her to jump into politics, such as seeking a US Senate seat or a governorship, or by creating her own political PAC to sponsor more progressive Democratic candidates and winning elective offices as stepping stones to an eventual presidency. If I had Oprah-money and the desire to become politically activist, that's what I would do. But that's just me, I'm old school like that.

But in spite of all of that, I really have no objections to Oprah ever becoming our chief executive. I think that her heart and intellect are in the place that's ultimately good for America and were she ever to become our nominee, I will wholeheartedly support her. No doubt, whatsoever.

What I do worry about instead is this country. America, as hateful, bigoted and dysfunctional as it is, clearly isn't in the right mind to embrace her as our Chief Executive, were she somehow elected. If there's one thing that this country has a problem with it's definitely black women. In spite of all the money, power, intelligence, achievement and inspiration any black woman could engender, America will find a way to decry and despise her. America hates black women, and that's a fact.

But in spite of how horribly America has treated black women, they are truly America's conscience, they have always been so. No matter how much America has been the bastion of straight, white men, black women have always been at the heart and soul of what it means to be American... And, yet, for their efforts, America has always tried to destroy them.

And thus would be my greatest fear for Oprah, were she to dip her toe into today's political miasma. America would react by trying to destroy her. She would become Enemy Number One. White America would weaponize its white fragility against her. It would even try to destroy itself in order to prevent her from become President.

If that's not completely obvious, then I don't know what is.

Take a look at Donald Fucking Trump. He was pretty much allowed to take office and keep it, in spite of how utterly unfit he his for the job of president, and simply because he's a white guy... He's literally THE "Any White Guy" who much of white America was prepared to support in a white-lash to eight years of Barack Obama. Just think about how fucked up this country became to even CONSIDER this fool as a viable candidate. He should have been laughed out of the room at every single GOPr debate. Instead, he was handed the keys to the kingdom. That is not the sign of a country that has its shit together.

A country that would do such a fucked up thing is not good enough for an Oprah right now... Or pretty much ANY sane person to sit in the Oval Office at this point. Sure, we could impeach Trump... But without another general election to replace him, we all know how that would turn out. We would be in even more of a mess.

America pretty much needs an enema right now. Before we'd ever elect an Oprah, or anyone else close to an 'Oprah,' we need for America to first get its collective shit together. Putting her into the Oval Office without doing the hard work of fixing most of what's wrong with our society and body politic is an invitation to disaster. If we're behaving like a banana republic now, I shudder to think of how far we'd devolve in the future. She's not our savior, she never will be, and we won't be 'saved' unless we save ourselves first and foremost.

Any expectation of her being our collective savior is nothing more than irresponsible folly. Only because, once she's elected and inaugurated, it wouldn't be her who would fail us, in spite any of her efforts, it would be all of us who would have failed ourselves.

So, the question of whether or not she should run, for me, really isn't one that I care about. After all, she ultimately needs to make the choice to run or not. If she jumps in, does whole primary thing, we can get to choose from whomever the candidates are and we go on from there. That's just how things are. The thing is though, the road needs to be repaved and expanded, in sort of like a grand political and social major infrastructure project, in order to fix all of that which is currently broken.

America is pretty fucked up right now, and we have collectively allowed that to happen. How are we going to repair that?
