He keeps posting selfies with his cronies like it's no big.

Somebody arrest this asshole. I don't care if it's in Ukraine or the US, I just wish somebody would shut this fool down.

"There was no plan, clearly." Exactly.

This points out that there was an egregious lack of training, as well as a lack of leadership. At the very least, every single one of those officers should be harshly reprimanded and put through proper training again along with some kind of probation period.

The police chief should be out of there. There's no excuse for what looked like every officer within radio signal distance showing up in a vest with a drawn gun. There didn't seem to be any protocol or discipline involved.

I don't think much accountability is going to happen, sadly. At worst, I've seen headlines calling this, 'dramatic.' The cops are hedging about who shot whom, saying it's going to be a 'complicated investigation.' When they are investigating themselves, that sound a bit disingenuous.

I know we must have DU members who are police or involved in law enforcement, and I know it's a voluntary job that can be extremely dangerous, adrenaline is a thing, etc. I'm not going to say that all police suck or whatever, but it is obvious that law enforcement in this country has some serious problems with how they perceive their role in society, as well as how they perceive the people they are supposed to be protecting. In this event, it really shows and it is ugly.

Hey, Tucker! What's wrong with Putin?

Trump officials are offering $5 million for information that leads to the arrest of Yakubets, the leader of Evil Corp. Authorities say he drives a Lamborghini with a license plate that reads "Thief" in Russian. [snip]

Officials say Evil Corp. developed and distributed a type of malware that infected computers around the world and harvested banking credentials in order to steal some $100 million.

The malware software was known as Dridex, which automated the theft of confidential information from banking customers after someone clicks on a phishing email, according to officials with the Justice and Treasury departments.

Investigators believe that the Russian government may have been complicit in the criminal enterprise.

"It's simply inconceivable that an organization like this can steal that amount of money from that money places using a distributive malware like Dridex without the Russian government being well-aware of those activities," a senior Treasury officials said.

Yowsa.

Also NPR needs copy editors, jeez.

The only time I have watched Tucker Carlson on purpose... and enjoyed it immensely:

Within months, Crossfire was off the air. The bow ties have gone away as well.

Tucker Carlson is still with us, unfortunately, and still a hack. Always has been. Now he's so thoroughly jumped on the right wing bandwagon, he's supporting a level of partisanship that borders treason. It's vile, but it's no surprise and I am glad to see people calling him on it. I do wish the likes of Jon Stewart would put him in his place on the air, on his own show. Again.

The article made me very sad. People deserve respect, just because.

They deserve to be healthy, happy, and whole, just because. For me, the article is a stark reminder that two of Roosevelt's Four Freedoms are freedom from want and freedom from fear. I miss presidents who talk about such positive things and try to make them real for everyone... instead of puffing themselves up and destroying everything they touch.

Fascinating article. Rudy wants to spin reality - again. Note the channel mentioned.

Giuliani, Facing Scrutiny, Travels to Europe to Interview Ukrainians

President Trump’s personal lawyer has been in Budapest and Kyiv this week to talk with former Ukrainian prosecutors for a documentary series intended to debunk the impeachment case. [snip]

The European trip was organized around the filming of a multipart television series featuring Mr. Giuliani that is being produced and aired by a conservative cable channel, One America News, or OAN.

The series, the first two installments of which have already aired, is being promoted as a Republican alternative to the impeachment hearings, including Ukrainian “witnesses” whom House Democrats running the inquiry declined to call. Some of the Ukrainians interviewed by Mr. Giuliani were sworn in on camera to “testify under oath” in a manner that the network claims “debunks the impeachment hoax.”

Mr. Giuliani was joined in Budapest by an OAN crew, including the reporter hosting the series, Chanel Rion, who conducted an interview in the Hungarian capital with Mr. Lutsenko, according to someone familiar with the interview.

Oldie but goodie along the same lines

Republicans on Russia trip face scorn and ridicule from critics at home July 5, 2018

Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.) led the eight-member delegation on a multiday tour of St. Petersburg and Moscow, a trip that included meetings with Russia’s foreign minister and parliamentarians. It did not include a session that senators had been hoping for: a meeting with Putin, whom President Trump is scheduled to meet at a summit this month.

Joining Shelby were Sens. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), John Kennedy (R-La.), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and John Thune (R-S.D.), and Rep. Kay Granger (R-Tex.).

Members of the delegation set off on their trip late last week promising to be tough with Russian officials ahead of the president’s visit, especially on matters of election interference. But they struck a conciliatory tone once there: The point of their visit, Shelby stressed to the Duma leader, was to “strive for a better relationship” with Moscow, not “accuse Russia of this or that or so forth.”

It played well in Moscow, but not on the home front. [snip]

Others pointed out that while the delegation was in Russia, the Senate Intelligence Committee released a report finding Russia had interfered in the 2016 presidential election with a clear preference for helping Trump defeat former secretary of state Hillary Clinton. Only one of the delegation participants, Kennedy, sits on a congressional panel that has looked into the Russia probe.
