Good on you, Bill Pascrell, Jr.
Dolly Parton is one of the most amazing people on the planet.
She's worked so hard all her life, and it shows in a stellar career and in all of her other endeavors, including the Imagination Library. She is so genuine and giving and I just love her to bits.
If you've never seen her appearances on Graham Norton (including the time he visited her at Dollywood) run over to YouTube and watch. It's hilarious.
I would love to grow up to be Dolly Parton - not the singing star or the movie star or the rich and famous Dolly, but the warm, honest, kind, and generous Dolly. She's the best.
Thanks for the link! Excerpt:
In July the FSIS approved a petition from the National Chicken Council requesting that slaughterhouses be allowed to process broilers infected with Avian Leukosis a virus that causes chickens to develop cancerous lesions and tumors. Inspectors would no longer be required to examine the first 300 birds of each flock for signs of the disease, and processors would be able to cut off tumors and lesions and then process the rest of the bird. The approval has led to a proposed rule change that is now before the food safety administrator Paul Kiecker.
Heres what we know about Avian Leukosis: A small percentage of birds (less than 1%) are diagnosed with the virus each year, but it spreads quickly through flocks and tens of thousands of chickens are condemned annually due to exposure. While its unlikely that the virus could transfer from chickens to humans, its not impossible. There is some evidence that workers exposed to birds infected with the disease in the U.K. have developed antibodies, indicating a transfer of the virus from animal to human.
Parthapratim Basu, who served as the Chief Public Health Veterinarian for the FSIS from 2016 to 2018, explained that Avian Leukosis is caused by a retrovirus and can become a systemic disease that passes through the blood, at which point cutting out tumors would fail to eliminate the virus. We have always had a motto in food safety: If its systemic, condemn it, said Basu.
What the hell? A rollback on the rules that keep diseased chickens out of the food supply is insane.
Well, well, well. Optics are double-plus-ungood for Kemp these days.
Eventually he's going to have to break down and mandate masks. If he has any sense (and elephants will fly, I know) he'll put the mandate in place before Biden makes him do it in January. The only thing a control freak like Kemp hates more than not getting Bottoms to back down is putting himself in a situation where someone else makes him do it.
Strong message overall, but I disagree with Galen's opinion that the likes of
Susan Collins and Lindsey Graham are not 'real' Republicans. Of course they are. That's the problem.
"Once upon a time" is a fitting start to that sentence, because it leads into a fairy tale. The GOP has claimed to stand for these things for decades, but history often tells a different story. The author needs to work on his selective memory.
If TLP genuinely wants to create a new and better Republican party, kicking out the 'bad apples' is only the first step. Steps beyond that would involve a lot of soul searching that is unlikely to happen. They'll just come back with a different team singing the same old songs, while being a little more subtle and polite about it all. Ho hum.
I do respect and appreciate TLP's efforts in fighting against trump, and trying to ensure that he does not get reelected. That is a good and noble thing they deserve praise for. What comes after remains to be seen.
Who is surprised -- anyone? Anyone at all?

This dances so close to a 'turbulent priest' call out. If Pirro dog whistled any louder
she'd have the pound on her doorstep. There's no excuse for comments this reckless, even from Fox, and it wouldn't be unheard of for the FBI to sit her down and explain that. With idiots like Pirro mouthing off, it's comforting to know Biden and Harris already have Secret Service details.
Prosecuting marijuana as part of the war on drugs was a thing back in the day.
It isn't anymore. Irrelevant. Next! nt

This is incredibly condescending.
If Brown really wanted to give Kamala Harris some advice, he could have called her on the phone and had a private conversation with her. It's really out of left field for him to inject himself into the situation this way. It's rude.
The VP position, particularly as it was defined by Obama and Biden during Obama's two terms, involved much more responsibility than in the past. The post under Biden is not at all likely to be the placeholder it might be for a different president. Not only that, turning down a VP request leaves no guarantee that the AG spot would be offered to her.
Biden picks these roles and does not need Brown's input.
Finally, while I wouldn't begrudge anyone all due career considerations before making a decision like this, Brown's emphasis on power and career over country really leaves me cold. The US is reeling: we're dealing with a pandemic, eminent economic collapse, social unrest, and a petulant wanna-be dictator.
When our government is teetering on the brink, a paternalistic career day lecture hits a sour note.
What Brown fails to take into account is that if offered the job, Kamala Harris might just want to accept because she hears the call to serve her country. That is entirely up to her -- or anyone else offered the job.
All the mansplainers and complainers need to butt out and let a grown woman make up her own mind.
"we will focus immediately on efficiency" -- really?
This is framing the U.S. Postal Service, a 245-year-old government agency, and comparing it to its competitors that could conceivably go bankrupt, said Philip Rubio, a professor of history at North Carolina A&T State University and a former postal worker. Comparing it to U.S. Steel says exactly that We are a business, not service. Thats troubling.
There it is -- a service that is not privatized and is not for profit is being treated as though it is a business that should be producing profit for the government rather than providing the vital services it always has to the citizen. smh
