Thom Hartmann on BLM.

I very strongly believe that Bernie, if asked to respond to Thom Hartmann's comments, would fully adopt them in toto. Bernie is building a Rainbow Coalition that will dwarf what Jesse Jackson did in 1988. That is the only way we are going to win the nomination.

Bernie has come out with a strong policy statement on police brutality and structural racism in America, because he has been fighting for social justice all his life. His political goals are aligned on these critical issues with BLM, other activists and their allies. imo, we should focus on that good news, because that is either a significant component of how we will win the nomination or, if we do not align with his inclusive message, fail.

I believe we will succeed because the vast majority of Bernie supporters are people of good will who want to put America and the world on the right track. An important part of that track is social justice for native, black, brown and LGBT people, as well as women. White privilege notwithstanding, I believe in the egalitarian principle that no person in this society is truly free, until all people are actually free.

Campaign cycles mean food fights on DU. Always have, always will. but before publishing an OP, please consider this question:

What would Bernie do?

My friend met the man, himself.

In the Burlington airport, my friend, Bernie backer and former Poet Laureate of Kansas, got a picture after flying in coach with him. She said he helped people get their luggage out of the upper compartment on debarking. Man of the people!

Native people are Feeling the Bern!

The KXL pipeline is just more of the GENOCIDAL BULLSHIT this country was founded on. NATIVE LIVES MATTER!

Have I mentioned a most excellent choice for Native Voters is Bernie Sanders? He isn't waiting for President Obama to reject the KXL pipeline permit to support our cause because unlike Hillary Clinton, his pockets aren't lined with corporate cash commitments. FEEL THE BERN! GO BERNIE!!!

Inspired to say hello.

A Clinton backer magnanimously reached out to Bernie people and I wanted to reciprocate. I have not always been a model DU citizen but I'm working on it.

I have to say I have always found Hillary people very well informed and reasonable. As for HRC, I can't think of a stronger champion for women and children's rights over a longer time span. I hope we can reconcile after the nomination and work to put the nominee in the WH!

Two more PoC yesterday.

My wife is Arapaho and works with a predominantly native group. Today in the copy room, a co-worker told her he finally looked at one of her FB Youtube posts. He really liked Bernie's speech and called his wife in to watch. They are backing Bernie now.

The Establishment relies on TV, but doesn't do well in new media and they don't get word of mouth. Could this be the cycle where new media plays the role TV did begining in 1960?

I'm switching from MSNBC to CNN.

CNN broke the Bernie media blackout today with positive interviews with Martese Johnson and Lil B. I'm like a dog grateful it didn't get kicked. I might still watch Chris Hayes or Rachel Maddow occasionally but it's all about Trump on there. After several years, CNN is my new station. I'm gonna email both and explain why.

"Currently I would say that Bernie Sanders is the best hope for the black community in the nation."

Martese Johnson is a hero who stood up to police brutality and got no justice:

BALDWIN: You talk about changing the nation. I mean, that's a - that an overarching notion, right? I mean, to be specific, here we are getting geared up for this campaign season and what's been interesting to watch is the political sphere is these candidates. I mean one of the questions they are now being asked is about the Black Lives Matter movement, about police brutality, especially, I think, of, you know, of Bernie Sanders, who participated in the civil rights movement decades ago. A couple of folks from the Black Lives Matter movement, you know, took over his podium over the weekend. At the same time, you know, his new national secretary is a black criminal justice advocate, strong supporter of that movement. I'm wondering just that as context, Martese, what is the one question you think that should be asked of these candidates?

…JOHNSON: Yes. I think that they need to implement and alter policy that will prevent, one, officers from being able to treat people in the way that they do and 99 percent of them don't get found guilty of any wrongdoing. I mean they also need to implement more intense training. So, for instance, they - that the ABC in Virginia, which is - I had just finished going through a two week training on diversity and, you know, prevention of these kinds of violent instances, but that's only two weeks and that won't change a lifetime of implicit bias. I mean so I think that there needs to be more policy implemented towards diminishing implicit bias and also promoting the safety of minorities throughout the nation. I think that many of the candidates have taken steps towards that in implementing their new policy - their new platforms on criminal justice, but I think there needs to be a lot more work.

And currently I would say that Bernie Sanders is the best hope for the black community in the nation. And that's based on -

BALDWIN: So he's - he's your pick so far?

JOHNSON: Yes. Just - and I don't officially endorse anyone at the moment, but based on the way things are going right now, what's been put out, I think that Bernie Sanders is definitely the candidate for the black community at the moment.
