The Most Feared Song in Jazz, Explained

John Coltrane, one of jazz history’s most revered saxophonists, released “Giant Steps” in 1959. It’s known across the jazz world as one of the most challenging compositions to improvise over for two reasons - it’s fast and it’s in three keys. Braxton Cook and Adam Neely give me a crash course in music theory to help me understand this notoriously difficult song, and I’m bringing you along for the ride. Even if you don’t understand a lick of music theory, you’ll likely walk away with an appreciation for this musical puzzle.

Re 41: For the next several days, we'll be reminded how those anti-Trump Rebublicans

we've loved seeing saying relatively reasonable things about the Mueller investigation, are really still contaminated with that same old repugnant Republican stuff we know and disfavor.

Still, 41 > 45.

People are more likely to believe #FakeNews if it comes with a photo.

https://twitter.com/10NewsFirst/status/1065480464498970624

People are more likely to believe something that isn't true if the claim is placed next to a loosely relevant photograph, new research shows.

Dr Eryn Newman, from ANU's Research School of Psychology, has been exploring how people determine truth in a fake-news era.

Newman found that people make the decision to trust information if it has pictures to illustrate the ideas -- but it doesn't even have to show your proof.

“It might be something like 'turtles are deaf' with a photograph of a turtle in the ocean."

Or ‘Nick Cave is alive’ or ‘Nick Cave is dead’ with the same photograph and it leads people to believe both claims in different experiments,” she said.

Russian fake news operative Alexander Malkevich detained by FBI

By Josh Marshall November 10, 2018 11:31 pm

Alexander Malkevich runs an outfit called USA Really, a kind of Russia Today/RT on steroids, basically a Russian-financed news operation the aim of which is to portray the USA as in a state of tumult and chaos. Admittedly this is probably an easier case to make than it might have been in the past. Needless to say, Malkevich, a Russian national is an epic Trump. Here’s how McClatchy described it in June …

"USA Really has all the markings of a Russian troll factory trying to undermine U.S. democracy, spinning conspiracy theories, aggregated news and opinions with an aim to show America in a state of near-chaos. Facebook and Twitter have shut down its accounts. When Malkevich’s website called for a rally June 14 to support President Donald Trump, it fizzled for lack of a correct city permit."

The content is a sort of agitated hybrid of Jill Stein, Tucker Carlson and Michael Tracey. One story I saw tonight was headlined “A USA Really correspondent went to Washington D.C. to take part in a meeting held by leading Republican political scientists to hear their opinion on the main features of this mid-terms campaign, and what has dramatically changed for the Party in the era of censorship and neo-liberal agenda.”

Russian embassy in DC is reporting that journalist Alexander Malkevich was detained by FBI. He has been pushing Russian propaganda in the states and is known as an info warrior. What’s very concerning is that he was here as an election observer

Stacey Abrams is even better at this than O'Rourke and Gillum.

Watching her speak live now, not quite conceding.
