Gay-Baiting Author Tells Fox Radio: Hillary Clinton ‘Overweight’ And ‘Not Looking Good’

By David Edwards
Tuesday, June 5, 2012 12:54 EDT

A controversial author, who once insinuated that Hillary Clinton was a lesbian, on Tuesday said that the current secretary of state wasn’t fit for another White House run because she was “looking overweight.”

“At this very moment that we’re speaking right now, Brian, [the Clintons] are already thinking seriously about running in 2016,” author Ed Klein told Fox News host Brian Kilmeade. “She’ll be 69 years old. And as you know — and I don’t want to sound anti-feminist here — but she’s not looking good these days. She’s looking overweight, and she’s looking very tired.”

“It looks like she’s not trying,” Kilmeade agreed.

“Yes, it does look that way,” Klein replied.

Republican Candidate’s Machine Gun Video Vows To ‘Take Linda Sanchez Out’

A Republican candidate and law enforcement officer in California is promising to “take Linda Sanchez out” in a campaign ad against the incumbent Democratic representative that features an animated machine gun.

In the 5-minute commercial posted to YouTube on Monday, a machine is seen blasting away at a wall to reveal the message, “Jorge Robles for Congress: Take Linda Sanchez Out of Office.”

The ad goes on to declare that Rep. Linda Sanchez is a “hot mess” because she has not paid off her student loans and “has problems budgeting her lifestyle.”

It concludes with the animation of a machine gun again firing at a wall with Sanchez’s name on it.

Russia Turns East To Embrace Looming China

By Thomas Grove

MOSCOW | Mon Jun 4, 2012 6:05pm EDT

(Reuters) - When Russia opens a "billion-dollar bridge" on its Pacific coast this summer, Vladimir Putin can expect an enthusiastic audience among the 5,000 islanders whom it will connect to the mainland, at an eye-popping cost per head.

But the president will be looking, too, for attention from a few miles further off, in China, whose rise as a trading and diplomatic partner but also as a potential rival for control of thinly populated Siberia's resources has brought a new focus in Moscow on both business and military investment in the far east.

Putin, who meets Chinese leaders in Beijing on Tuesday as he settles back into his role in the Kremlin, has poured money into the Vladivostok area since it was chosen five years ago to host this September's Asia-Pacific APEC summit.

Today, though some question the efficacy of bureaucrats pouring taxpayers' roubles into the region, it shows a will in the Kremlin to engage in the east, where Putin must balance the opportunities and risks presented by the rapid growth of China.

Service Sector Picks Up Modestly In May: ISM

Source: REUTERS

NEW YORK | Tue Jun 5, 2012 12:10pm EDT

(Reuters) - The pace of growth in the vast services sector edged up in May driven by gains in new orders, a welcome comfort after recent disappointing economic data.

The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) said on Tuesday its services index edged up to 53.7 from 53.5 in April; economists had expected the index to hold steady at April's level.

A reading above 50 indicates expansion in the sector, which accounts for about two-thirds of economic activity.

Although the data offered a positive note after other recent signs suggesting the recovery is losing traction, the index was still well off the level of 57.3 seen in February.

First Lady Applauds NYC Plan To Ban Sugary Drinks

(06-05) 11:53 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --

First lady Michelle Obama says banning big servings of sugary drinks isn't anything she'd want to do at the federal level but she applauded New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Tuesday for proposing to do just that at city eateries.
--CLIP

In an interview with The Associated Press, Mrs. Obama said there's no "one-size-fits-all" solution for the country's health challenges. But she said she "applauds anyone who's stepping up to think about what changes work in their communities," and she's citing New York as one example.

Pa. Man Tied To Supremacist Groups Elected To Local GOP Committee With Single Vote...His Own

A northeastern Pennsylvania man with longstanding ties to white supremacist groups entered a polling place on primary election day and wrote in his name for a low-level position with the local Republican Party committee.

Steve Smith wound up getting elected with a single vote — his own — and now presents a headache for a GOP that doesn’t want him but might not be able to get rid of him.

Pennsylvania Democrats spread word last week of his April election, linking to a report by the Southern Poverty Law Center that described Smith’s associations with “an extraordinary array of white nationalist, skinhead, and neo-Nazi groups,” including a group formerly known as the Keystone State Skinheads.

The Luzerne County Republican Committee and the state GOP denounced Smith’s election to a four-year committee post representing Pittston’s Fourth Ward, saying his views in no way represent their own.

Already hobbled by Europe's debt crisis, the world now risks being hurt by slowdowns in its economic powerhouses.

The U.S. economy, the world's largest, had a third straight month of feeble job growth in May. High-flying economies in China, India and Brazil are slowing, too.

Fears of a global economic downturn have sent investors rushing toward the safest possible investments: U.S. and German government bonds. As a result, the interest rate on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note has hit a record-low 1.46 percent. The rate on the German 10-year bond is even lower: 1.17 percent.

Defense: George Zimmerman In Police Custody

Source: Associated Press

(06-03) 10:56 PDT MIAMI (AP) --

The defense team for George Zimmerman, the man charged in the killing of Trayvon Martin, says he is in police custody in Florida.

Zimmerman's legal team said in a tweet Sunday that he was in police custody, two days after a judge ordered him back to jail. Zimmerman's bail was revoked because the judge said he and his wife lied to the court about their finances so he could obtain a lower bond.

On Sunday afternoon, about 40 minutes before the 2:30 p.m. deadline to surrender, Zimmerman was listed as an inmate on the jail website. He was listed as being held without bail and having $500 in his jail account.

Putin To Meet Iran's Ahmadinejad In China: Kremlin

Source: Agence France-Presse

Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the sidelines of a summit in Beijing next week as tensions rise over Tehran's nuclear drive, a Kremlin official said.

"Meeting Ahmadinejad will let Putin personally feel the tension around the Iranian issue and how it is perceived in Tehran," Kremlin foreign policy aide Yury Ushakov told reporters last week in comments that were embargoed for release until Sunday.

Putin and Ahmadinejad agreed to meet over the phone and the initiative came "from both sides," Ushakov said.

The meeting will come as Russia prepares to host the latest round of talks on June 18 and 19 between world powers and Iranian negotiators in a bid to find a diplomatic solution to the standoff over Iran's nuclear programme.

Construction Spending in U.S. Rose in April for a Second Month

By Shobhana Chandra - 2012-06-01T14:00:00Z

Construction spending in the U.S. rose in April for a second month, helped by a surge in housing.

The 0.3 percent gain followed a matching increase in March that was revised higher than previously estimated, Commerce Department figures showed today in Washington. The median estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News called for a 0.4 percent rise.

Cheaper properties and low borrowing costs are lifting orders at homebuilders like Toll Brothers Inc. (TOL), a sign the industry that helped trigger the recession is improving. At the same time, foreclosures remain a restraint on housing, and commercial construction is unlikely to pick up until growth accelerates.

“There’s a modest uptick in demand” for homes, Michael Gapen, a senior U.S. economist at Barclays Plc in New York, said before the report. “The housing recovery should broaden out this year. We’re coming off the bottom.”
