Starting in 1976, the FBI manipulated the grand jury process to assault both the Chicano and Puerto Rican movements. Under the guise of investigating Las Fuerzas Armadas de Liberacion National Puertorriqueno (FALN) and other Puerto Rican urban guerrillas, the Bureau harassed and disrupted a cultural center, an alternative high school, and other promising community organizing efforts in Chicago's Puerto Rican barrio and in the Chicano communities of Denver and northern New Mexico. It subpoenaed radical Puerto Rican trade union leader Federico Cintron Fiallo and key staff of the National Commission on Hispanic Affairs of the U.S. Episcopal Church to appear before federal grand juries and jailed them for refusing to cooperate. The independent labor movement in Puerto Rico and the Commission's important work in support of Puerto Rican and Chicano organizing were effectively discredited.
On July 25, 1978, an undercover agent lured two young Puerto Rican independence activists, Carlos Soto Arrivi and Arnaldo Dario Rosado, to their deaths in a police ambush at Cerro Maravilla, Puerto Rico. The agent, Alejandro Gonzalez Malave, worked under the direct supervision of the FBI-trained intelligence chief of the island's police force. The FBI refused to investigate when the police claimed they were merely returning gunfire initiated by the activists. Later it was proved that Soto and Dario had surrendered and were then beaten and shot dead while on their knees. Though a number of officers were found guilty of perjury in the cover-up and one was sentenced for the murder, the officials who set up the operation remain free. Gonzalez has been promoted.
On November 11, 1979, Angel Rodriguez Cristobal, popular socialist leader of the movement to stop U.S. Navy bombing practice on the inhabited Puerto Rican island of Vieques, was murdered in the U.S. penitentiary in Tallahassee, Florida. Though U.S. authorities claimed 'suicide," Rodriguez Cristobal, in the second month of a six-month term for civil disobedience, had been in good spirits when seen by his lawyer hours before his death. He had been subjected to continuous threats and harassment, including forced drugging and isolation, during his confinement. Though he was said to have been found hanging by a bed sheet, there was a large gash on his forehead and blood on the floor of his cell.

As the CIA director, George Tenet, arrived at the Senate yesterday to give secret testimony on the Niger uranium affair, it was becoming increasingly clear in Washington that the scandal was only a small, well-documented symptom of a complete breakdown in US intelligence that helped steer America into war.
It represents the Bush administration's second catastrophic intelligence failure. But the CIA and FBI's inability to prevent the September 11 attacks was largely due to internal institutional weaknesses.
This time the implications are far more damaging for the White House, which stands accused of politicising and contaminating its own source of intelligence.
According to former Bush officials, all defence and intelligence sources, senior administration figures created a shadow agency of Pentagon analysts staffed mainly by ideological amateurs to compete with the CIA and its military counterpart, the Defence Intelligence Agency.
The agency, called the Office of Special Plans (OSP), was set up by the defence secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, to second-guess CIA information and operated under the patronage of hardline conservatives in the top rungs of the administration, the Pentagon and at the White House, including Vice-President Dick Cheney.

Bill O’Reilly’s Outdated ‘Killing Kennedy’
Exclusive: Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly and co-author Martin Dugard are hoping for another financial “killing” with their Killing Kennedy. But the new book may have a bigger agenda, solidifying popular history behind the Warren Report on JFK’s murder and tearing down his character, writes Jim DiEugenio.

A long time ago, Fox News personality Bill O’Reilly was a high school history teacher. Martin Dugard was an author who had written a few history books, e.g. about Christopher Columbus and Stanley and Livingstone. Last year, the two men collaborated on a book about the murder of President Abraham Lincoln. Killing Lincoln proved to be a “killing” in another way, a financial one.
This year is the 49th anniversary of the assassination of President John Kennedy. Several writers and film producers are already preparing major projects for the 50th anniversary next year. It seems that O’Reilly and Dugard decided to get the jump on the occasion by trying to repeat the success of their book about Lincoln, thus, we have Killing Kennedy.
But the Kennedy case is not the Lincoln case. The Lincoln case is one that has settled into history. The incredible thing about the murder of President Kennedy is that, 49 years later, we are still discovering things that the government has tried to keep secret about the case.
For instance, just a few months ago it was learned that the Air Force One tapes at the National Archives were incomplete. They had been edited to eliminate a reference to a query about the location of Air Force General Curtis LeMay as President Kennedy’s body was being returned from Dallas.
This made the news since historians understand that LeMay and Kennedy knocked heads during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, but also because there have been reports that, for whatever reason, LeMay was present during the Kennedy autopsy at Bethesda Medical Center that evening.
I mention this not only to show that there are still important secrets seeping out about the murder of President Kennedy, but also because you will not find a word about any significant new evidence in this book. In fact, in regards to the actual murder of President Kennedy, this is a book that could have been written in 1965. I could find very little, if anything, pertaining to the actual assassination that was discovered in later decades.

Eisenhower backed France to the hilt in Vietnam.
Even going back on his word to abide by the United Nations agreement for a united North and South plebiscite to determine the nation's fate.
On the recommendation of the Pentagon and his military advisors, Kennedy upped the number of "advisors" in-country, all of whom were volunteers. Unlike his successors LBJ and Nixon, Kennedy said no draftees would be sent to fight in Vietnam.
Kennedy ordered ALL U.S. armed forces out of the country by the end of 1965, as made clear by National Security Action Memorandum 263. A week after JFK was assassinated, LBJ reversed course and ordered all the assistance the government of South Vietnam needed in NSAM 273.
You most likely are correct about LBJ helping JFK win in 1960, graham4anything. As for Vietnam, LBJ gave the Military Industrial Complex the war they wanted.
One thing I know for certain, had Nixon won, the course of history would have been very different and this world would not be the same.

Dear Mr. Mayor,
My name is Katsutaka Idogawa. At the time of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, which resulted in a radiation catastrophe, I was the Mayor of Futaba, the town closest to the Fukushima Daiichi plant. I write this letter to you, the Mayor of Sosnovy Bor, the town closest to the Leningrad power plant, as someone who has had a similar mandate and responsibility to his constituents.
I would like to caution you against making the mistakes I did, which I greatly regret.
In 2005, I became the Mayor of Futaba, a town in which the Tokyo Electrical Power Company (TEPCO) had already built a nuclear power station. I had great trust in the vision and statements of the nuclear industry, which told me that a nuclear power plant would work well and bring happiness and prosperity to my town.
It is now apparent that this vision was a lie. A terrible catastrophe began at the Fukushima Daiichi reactor on March 11, 2011. Later there were explosions at 3 nuclear reactors and radiation accidents at 4 spent fuel basins. The level of radiation in my town has since risen tremendously. Radiometres by my office window have registered radiation levels that were off the charts. There was no information on how to proceed – neither from the power plant, nor the government – and so, I took the decision to evacuate the residents of Futaba town. I hope that you will never be in the position to have to evacuate residents of Sosnovy Bor because of a radiation accident at Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant or Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant Two, which is currently under construction.
The residents of Futaba, myself included, have had to leave our town because of the radiation catastrophe. We have been displaced and abandoned.
I urge you to not repeat my mistakes! Do not let the nuclear industry compromise the future of your town, the future of your country as well as the lives and health of your citizens.
There is a Japanese proverb which states that everything happens in threes. Three serious radiation accidents have already taken place: at Three Miles Island NPP (USA, 1979), at Chernobyl NPP (USSR, Ukraine, 1986) and at Fukushima Daiichi NPP (Japan, 2011). Our mission is to stop any more catastrophes from happening and this is something which we must achieve.
Say no to nuclear energy! Fight for a nuclear-free future for your town, for your country and for the world. Fight for a future in which there is no more nuclear waste production, and in which there is no room for radiation accidents and catastrophes.

Most complex crop circle ever discovered in British fields

The most complex, "mind-boggling" crop circle ever to be seen in Britain has been discovered in a barley field in Wiltshire.
The circle is a coded representation of pi to the 10th significant figure
The formation, measuring 150ft in diameter, is apparently a coded image representing the first 10 digits, 3.141592654, of pi.
It is has appeared in a field near Barbury Castle, an iron-age hill fort above Wroughton, Wilts, and has been described by astrophysicists as "mind-boggling".
Michael Reed, an astrophysicist, said: "The tenth digit has even been correctly rounded up. The little dot near the centre is the decimal point.
