Reach out... with a kiss from my mother...

One of the more under-appreciated bands of the 90s..

After a hellish month, finally something goes in my favor...

After having had to have both of our dogs put down in a two week span, our car (2012 Nissan Juke) was making some horrendous noise out of the engine... had the oil changed, and the guy at the shop had me convinced that I had destroyed my engine by being late on oil changes, and that Nissan would certainly not honor the warranty.. well, I took it in on Tuesday, and within about 5 minutes, they determined that the timing chain had stretched (apparently, not unheard of with Nissans the last couple of years), and they are replacing the entire engine, and it is covered by the 15 or so pages of warranties and shit I signed when we bought...

49ers fan to Seahawks' 12th Man: Pipe down or lose home games

Wow.. I have tons of respect for the Niners, but what a bunch of whiny little shits a few of their fans can be...

[div class="excerpt"SEATTLE -- At least two San Francisco 49ers fans think they have a simple solution to help their team win next time they come to Seattle to play the Seahawks: Tell the fans to shut up or else.

The Seahawks' "12th Man" was in full form during Sunday night's 29-3 pasting of the 49ers at CenturyLink Field, not only shattering the 49ers' ear drums but also shattering the Guinness World Record for the loudest crowd ever at 136.6 decibels.

But for Judy Spelman and Rick Schiller of Point Reyes Station, Calif., the crowd noise was not just an advantage for the Seahawks, but an unfair one.

"Was anyone else appalled by the unsportsmanlike conduct of the Seattle Seahawks and their fans, juiced on noise, which surely creates as big an advantage over an opponent as any performance enhancing drug and which, to their shame, NFL officials turn the same blind eye they have to concussions and drugs?" the pair wrote in a Letter to the Editor at the San Francisco Chronicle on Wednesday.

Unsportsmanlike conduct in Seattle
Was anyone else appalled by the unsportsmanlike conduct of the Seattle Seahawks and their fans, juiced on noise, which surely creates as big an advantage over an opponent as any performance enhancing drug and which, to their shame, NFL officials turn the same blind eye they have to concussions and drugs ("Seattle states case loudly, clearly in rout," Sports, Sept. 16)?

It would be simple to fix. Seahawks players and managers would ask their fans to cease and desist, and the NFL would implement a new rule: The visiting team may stop the game when fan noise is greater than a specified decibel level, and should this rule be violated in more than three games, no home games will be played at the offending field for the rest of the season, including playoff games. Things would quiet down.

At a time when the world seems sour, sports give us a place of joy, community and hope, and to have it spoiled is a bigger loss than it seems on the surface.

RIP, Fizzgig. 2001 - 2013.

Tremendously sad tonight. My dear, beloved best friend took his final exit this evening. He was, all hyperbole aside, the most incredible friend and companion I ever had. I've never seen, before or since, a Pomeranian who would relish in spending hours chasing down his ball, frisbee or squeaky toy and prance his way back to me... only to play the age-old dog game of "drop it? hahaha! not today, old man!" He was freakishly smart (whenever he was asked "Fizzy, where's your toy? He would bound off to one corner of the house or another, and always came back toy in mouth, having known exactly where he had left it. He alao had a knack for opening any doors he wanted to see the other side of.)
Even though I had known the decision was imminent, it still hurt me to the core to tell the vet "I guess it's time." Even though he was very small, all things considered, the house - hell, the family - will feel infinitely more empty without him. Our oldest boy (all of 16 years old) handled Fizzgigs declining years with a grace and patience rarely seen in many adults. I guess that may be the biggest legacy my sweet little buddy could have left me.. the knowledge that, despite our many shortcomings, my wife and I have raised an incredible young man as well.
Rest easy, furball. And know that you were cherished and loved.

Earwigs in my corn :(

Dammit.. we had some nice corn coming in, and my wife pointed out to me that there were earwigs setting up camp in the leaves.. closer inspection leads me to believe they've made their way into the ears as well... so not cool.. I just sprayed the lot down with a dish soap solution, but I fear it's probably too late.. I also have some squash, beans and peppers in that area of the garden, and I'm hoping against hope that those'll be safe.
