Every time I think of Treyvon Martin I see my son's face.

My wife and I adopted our son when he was 3 1/2 months old. Yesterday we celebrated his 12th birthday. Each day he becomes less and less a baby or a little kid and more and more a young man. As with all parents, I'm sure, when he learns something new or shows a more advanced level of maturity or shows that his interests are becoming more adult, my wife and I are proud of the advance and at the same time sorry for what's being left behind.

My son has recently made a new best friend. They do as all boys that age do, go into his room and play video games for hours on end, eat everything in sight and talk about school, teachers, girls and, I'm sure, what pains in the ass their parents are. The only difference I see from when I was their age is that you could replace video games with comic books.

The biggest difference between my son and his friends and his parents and about 97% of the population up here in Maine however, is that my son has a black skin.

Yesterday we had as good a birthday celebration as we could have given that I haven't had a job in 10 months. My sister-in-law bought him a bike that we picked up at the store. We put a few dollars in a card and took him to the video game store here in town for a couple of games. I baked him a birthday cake and made one of his favorite dinners at home and we let him pick the Netflix movie we'd watch during dinner. My wife and I also split his chores between us for the day. He very maturely accepted that his big celebration with Mom and dad will have to wait until after I get a job, when we'll take him for a huge Chinese Buffet feast and give him his gifts from us. All in all it was a very nice day.

That is, until I looked in the rear view mirror and saw my beautiful son wearing the hood on his jacket.

I realized even more so than before that if there were an armed racist out hunting "f***in c***s" as george zimmerman was, my son's gentle and loving nature would mean NOTHING. The fact that this young man who has, since he was 5, always wanted to buy food for any homeless person he sees at a McDonald's or any other fast food restaurant would mean NOTHING. The fact that the worst thing this bright, articulate and handsome young man has ever done was to be a frequent pain in the ass to his parents and teachers in the same way that most kids the same age are would mean NOTHING. The fact that he is loved unconditionally and passionately by parents who would sacrifice their lives to save his in less than a heartbeat and consider it the best bargain we'd ever made would mean NOTHING. The devastating loss for us and our friends and family would mean NOTHING. These things would mean nothing to a george zimmerman type because they would only care about "bagging their prey".

I remember when one of Ted Kennedy's sons lost a leg to cancer at about the same age that my son is now, he said that having children is like giving hostages to the world. I realize now just how true and powerful a statement that is.

When I was a child, my mother used to let me walk to and from kindergarten alone once I knew the way. Do you know why? Because EVERYBODY's mother let them do the same (at least where I grew up). Once my father took a powder when I was in first grade and my older sister got married not long after, I was a latchkey child. Neither my mother nor I ever had any concern for my safety in going to and from school.

That was in the 1960s. This is now.

Dangerous racist "hunters" like george zimmerman are out there. They will be supported by the teabagger republicans and fox news who will slime and smear the victims who have the temerity to have been born in a black skin to make them look like the criminals and attempt to turn the murderers into the victims.

We have to do everything we possibly can to stop this. One way is to give the racist republican/teabagger/fox news congregation the political repudiation that they so richly deserve this November. Another way is to demand, long and loud, that george zimmerman go to jail for a very long time.

We stopped the vietnam war by letting the powers that be know that the whole world was watching. This needs to be done again.

I must have been feeling masochistic this AM but not TOO much.

I've always believed in knowing what the other side does and says, so I very occasionally listen to rush limbooger at time when I know I'll be able to get to a shower quickly. I've also suffered through many a republican national convention.

The reason I'm saying that I was feeling masochistic today is that I decided to watch "atlas shrugged" on Netflix streaming. I know that ayn rand is the "inspiration" for much of what passes for thought among the modern right wing. I can't really bear the thought of going to the library (because I'd never spend any of my very little money on her) and spending deveral days reading her drivel, so I thought that a little more than an hour and a half of watching the movie wouldn't hurt.

BOY HOWDY was I wrong!

After an hour of watching the "heroes" of this piece of wasted celluliod, I learned that the "all for me and my company" belief is good, the idea of helping others makes you a wimp, and that I DON'T CARE who john galt is. For one of the few times in my life, I turned a movie off not just because it was bad, but because it was downright PAINFUL!

And this was only part one. Jeeezis!

If I recall correctly, this crap didn't make enough money to justify part two even being made. More than likely however, given the fanaticism of the right of 2012, it will be made just so thousands of right wingers can have the entire "epic" prominently displayed on their DVD shelves. If they weren't so damn stupid and driven by their twisted soft headed notions, I'd say "poor bastards".

The poor bastards, however, are those like me who attempt to sit through it or, even worse, the ones who force themselves to finish it.

Poor bastards!

Please take my word for this, go to Redbox, spend a buck and get "The Mighty Macs"!

If you like uplifting sports underdog movies like "Hoosiers" and "Remember the Titans", you'll love "The Mighty Macs"!

Don't be put off by the fact that this about a Catholic college (now university) and has many nuns as characters in the cast. The movie doesn't preach anything of a religious nature. It does send a message about teamwork, never giving up on your dreams and giving your all as a part of a team. The (I think) fictitious character of the nun who becomes the asistant coach of the team is, in fact, one of my favorite people in the story.

My lovely wife and I have many connections to this film. She was a nun herself at one time and actually lived at Immaculata. She saw some of the nuns with whom she served as extras in the movie. I, as a Philadelphia native in my late teens during the Macs glory days, remember with great affection their dynasty as the first women's national champions. This was a time when all of the professional Philly teams, Eagles, Sixers, Phils and Flyers, were BAD!

The Macs were a few Catholic college girls who learned about teamwork and made an entire region cheer!

The Mighty Macs did Philadelphia proud, Catholic and Non-Catholic alike.

This movie brought back some very warm and nostalgic feelings for us. For anyone else, I think that you'll see a fun movie that everyone in the family can enjoy.

Give it a try. I doubt that you'll be sorry.

We just got back from the Augusta Maine showing of "The Road We've Traveled".

I won't spoil anything for those of you who haven't yet seen it. I will only say thiese few things.

I'm very proud of my President.

This President has opened doors for my African American son that not too long ago I thought would never be open. This President treats women and ethnic people as valued and equal partners in America's future promise.

The opposition considers my son to be less than human. The opposition considers my intelligent, beautiful, professional and accomplished wife to be a slut and a prostitute.

This is a president who MUST be re-elected, hopefully with solid Democratic majorities in both houses. We haven't gone as far down that road as we need to go, but we've gone too far to even consider going back.

BTW, you can see it as of 8PM EDT tonight at the campaign website.

And so, andrew brietbart's final "devastating" video of a young President Obama...

...is him saying that students should open their hearts and minds to a professor who teaches inclusion and taking full advantage of their educational opportunities.

WOW.

I find it very fitting that his final BLOCKBUSTER is so insignificant that it will go over like a lead balloon. It's going to be about as popular, as my Mother used to say, as a fart in church.

Upon seeing this, I could only think of the fifth act, fifth scene of Macbeth and one of the most famous of all of Shakespeare's lines;

Life's but a walking shadow; a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

andy breitbart, an idiot full of sound and fury and signifying NOTHING!

How fiting that this will be the last thought that many of us, and most certainly me, will ever waste on this sorry allegedly human being.

A thought about bain romney's "inevitability".

I'm just running this up the flagpole. Some of you may salute, some of you may pee on the pole.

Supposedly, bain romney is solidifying his hold on the nomination by winning the state that he governed for one term before not seeking a second term because he knew what would happen. He won a neighboring state where he will have NO REMOTE POSSIBILITY of breaking much over 35% of the November vote. He won a state where his only opponent was an old racist with no shot at the nomination.

He has lost solidly red states like Oklahoma, Tennessee and North Dakota and, with 71% of the vote in, he is losing Ohio (a state that no republican has ever been elected without) to little ricky santorum.

Let me repeat that. He is losing to little ricky santorum. He of "JFK makes me want to throw up", He who was Virginia's 3rd senator when he was sent to the Senate twice from Pennsylvania. He who brought his abor...ooops, I mean miscarried fetus home to meet the siblings. He who has declared a war on rubbers. He who came within 3% of victory in one of bain romney's many home states.

This is the man who lost his last election so badly that it was the first race to be called on election night of 2006. It was the widest margin of defeat for an incumbemt senator in Pennsylvania history.

The inevitable nominee who is the favored candidate of establishment republicanism due to his "electability" is losing to little ricky santorum.

I can recognize it when I see a group of people try so desperately to talk themselves into a line of baloney. Hell, I've talked myself into a line of baloney a million times, but God forbid that I ever spend tens of millions of dollars to do so.

The funniest thing is that if bain romney is, in fact, the inevitable republican nominee, his loss will only be greeted by the teabaggers as being entirely attributable to his not being conservative enough. It will prevent the republican party's ability to finally make a move back to sanity by getting rid of the baggers from having any real influence in the party. "Ditto" for rush limbooger. Politically, I'm OK with that. In the long run, we do need 2 solid parties, hopefully both lucid.

I will continue to watch this fiasco unfold with great pleasure.

BTW, since I started to write this post, bain romney has inched closer to little ricky in Ohio with 85% of the vote in. I don't believe that invalidates my point, though. If I were little ricky santorum and lost Ohio in this way, I wouldn't quit.

Of course, If I were little ricky santorum, I think I'd have jumped out of a window a long tome ago.

That's my 2 cents, and quite possibly overpriced at that!

My almost 12 year old son is starting to get those pre-teen hormonal attacks!

Another DUer mentioned her 15 year old son's hormonal attacks in a great thread about how HE has more of a clue than rush limbooger.

My son worked in his first campaign in 2010 when he canvassed with me to attempt to get Libby Mitchell elected Governor of Maine. He is a young man that a friend trusted enough to come out to at the end of his 5th grade year because he knew that my son is a true friend. He will be working along side of his mom and I this year to get President Obama re-elected, put a Democrat in olympia snowe's seat and to keep the House seat in Democratic hands as well as to get the state legislature back.

That being said, he is very young and those hormones are starting to HOP. I pulled a dirty trick on him a few days ago.

He asked when he'd be able to watch "a movie with a lot of boobs in it". I told him that I'd put on a DVD with "a lot of boobs in it".

I played "Farenheit 911" for him and pointed out a LOT of boobs like bush, cheney, rumsfeld, wolfowitz, etc.

He went from very thrilled to very pissed VERY QUICKLY, but he did see the humor in it. He can always appreciate a joke, even when it's a good natured one at his expense. He WILL get me back for that one, however.

I just thought I'd share. I thought it was funny; a little cruel, but FUNNY! It's my 2 cents and quite possibly overpriced at that!

A question about our profiles

On my profile, I do see that there are a couple of people who ignore me, but where can I see those whom I've put on the ignore list?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

So, little andy breitbart is dead.

Yawn.

I never wish death on anyone and I understand that he leaves a family behind. I never wish for a family to be broken apart. In this case though, maybe an upside is that mom can get a sane step-dad eventually.

Compassion for this little piss bag or mourning for his loss? Forget it!

Aside from all of the other reasons that other DUers have stated for having no sympathy for that walking bag of shit's death, I have one other point to add.

breitbart, as well as all of the other puss ball shit holes like him, would have only one reaction to any feelings of compassion that we on the left may express for his dying.

They would look on it with contempt as a sign of our weakness.

I will never give those hateful bastards the satisfaction.

Too bad his family lost a husband and father, but my eulogy for breitbart can only be given in one way.

I'll deliver it after eating a large can of baked beans and drinking a big bottle of Pepsi. It'll be real smelly so deaf people could enjoy it too!

PEACE!
