mopinko's Journalthe electoral college act- dont fix it, dump it.
listening to lawrence tribe on joy reid, talking about how sloppy the electoral count act is, and how it needs to be fixed.
fuck that. dump it.
i'm trying to imagine american elections w/o it. it would be soooo different.
would there even be a rural/urban divide w/o it? i dont think so.
could the thugs divide us, state by state, if all our votes went in the same pot?
would there be ANY room to manipulate the results w/o that stupid device?
i really dont think so.
one person, one vote. period. amen. close quote.

hello from the northwoods!
kelly posted this as a reply in the wis forum, but it deserves an op.
It's been a wild week since making the announcement! After the WI Supreme Court flipped and put the latest gerrymander into action, the district lines changed on the day I jumped in. Lucky for me, this one didn't change as much as some of the other races downstate. Now, I've got a horseshoe-shaped district in far northwestern WI with eight full counties and a couple of extra townships. Still the biggest Senate district in the state, and the furthest from the capital.
We've been out canvassing and connecting with all of the local county party folks, collecting signatures to get my name on the ballot (400 minimum, but we're aiming for double that). So far, the reception has been great and I've been really impressed by the local field organization in some pretty unexpected places!
At any rate, it feels good to be back on the campaign trail and I've got my work cut out for me. My opponent is a former state assembly rep, and he's be in the race and fundraising since October of last year. This district leans a little republican, but it's been held by democrats since 1986. If we lose it now, the republicans will have a supermajority in the Senate, and they'll be able to overturn any veto. Even if Governor Evers wins re-election, he won't be able to stop bad bills if we can't keep this seat.
All that is to say that I appreciate all the help I can get! We've got a lot of ground to cover and a lot of voters to reach between now and November 9th. Anyone who's interested can find out more at https://kellywestlundforsenate.com/

Fred Hampton childhood home gets historical landmark status-

(AP) The Illinois childhood home of Fred Hampton, an iconic Black Panther Party leader who was shot and killed during a 1969 police raid of his Chicago apartment, has been designated a historical landmark.
In a news release, organizers of the Save The Hampton House initiative, led by Hamptons son and his mother, announced that the Maywood Village Board voted to recognize the house as a historical landmark.
The Tuesday night vote in the Chicago suburb follows a yearlong campaign that was tied to the Academy Award-winning film about Hampton and his death called Judas and the Black Messiah.
The designation is part of a broader effort to see the Black Panther Party and the U.S. Black liberation struggle represented alongside landmarks to the nonviolent civil rights movement. With the designation, organizers plan to transform the site into a place where the works of the Black Panther Party can be displayed
great news.
Let's talk about Mallory McMorrow and identifying with the bad guy....
really good, even for beau. it isnt history that makes kids feel bad, it's the part where the slavers are the heroes.
'history doesnt make your kids feel bad, their parents siding w the bad guys is what makes you kids feel bad.'
and- the heroes are out there, teach that.
brilliant.
