tanyev's JournalI wish the editorial had pointed the finger at REPUBLICANS in Congress
instead of just saying Congress over and over. The real problem here isnt Trump. The problem is that nearly every Republican in Congress is either fully complicit, shamelessly opportunistic or scared witless. Or even some combination of the three. If most Republicans had stood up to Trump every time he tried violating norms or skirting the law, Donny wouldnt have gotten very far. He might have thrown in the towel before his term was up.
"What's the downside of humoring him?"
This. This is the downside, idjits.
Nov. 10, 2020:
What is the downside for humoring him for this little bit of time? No one seriously thinks the results will change, the official said. He went golfing this weekend. Its not like hes plotting how to prevent Joe Biden from taking power on Jan. 20. Hes tweeting about filing some lawsuits, those lawsuits will fail, then hell tweet some more about how the election was stolen, and then hell leave.

OMG, The Mark of the Best!!1!
Their concerns are valid.
It was horrifying for them (and us) to see how easily our nation's safeguards could be overturned by one authoritarian asshole and one complicit political party. Thank goodness Biden won, but what happens in 2024? (Or August of this year, according to some.) We're not out of the woods yet.
Ma'am, please hold out the first finger and thumb on your right hand.
OK, put a little super glue on the back side, right between the thumb and the finger.
Now see if that will stick to your forehead.
I am I, Don Baloney, the Lord of Mar'Lago
A Name all the world hears with woe
And the wild winds of fortune will carry me onward
Oh whither so ever they blow
Whither so ever they blow
Onward to Glory I go!

OMG, Susan Wright accepted Trump's endorsement after her husband died of Covid?
And this wasn't early-in-the-pandemic-we-didn't-know-any-better Covid. Nope, he announced on Jan 21, 2021 that he had been quarantining since Friday, Jan. 15th. That could very well be fallout-from-the-insurrection Covid. At the very least, it's must-show-Trump-how-much-I-love-him Covid.
It did surprise me that history repeated itself in this area.
After all, in 1918 it was just a hunch that these measures would work. We now have extensive knowledge of how disease develops from viruses and bacteria. Sanitization is as easy as walking to the closest sink with running water and soap, or alcohol wipes/hand gel in a pinch. We have protective masks made of materials that give orders of magnitude more protection than anything available in 1918. All of these supplies and food can be ordered from our houses and delivered to our doors. New and updated information can be disseminated to the population instantly.
And yet, the same clusterfuck of denial, whining and stupidity has played out. There's got to be a psychological construct at work. I look forward to the books that will be written to analyze it.
