Meet the Bernie Sanders Supporter Who Debated Bill Clinton for 30 Minutes at a New Mexico Restaurant

AMY GOODMAN: We’re turning now to our last segment. We go to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where former President Bill Clinton found himself in an unlikely 30-minute debate with a 24-year-old Bernie Sanders supporter last week. Bill Clinton was campaigning for Hillary Clinton, of course, when he stopped at a Mexican restaurant in Santa Fe. There he met Josh Brody, who questioned him about his presidential record, from welfare reform to the deregulation of Wall Street to government spending. To find out what happened, we’re joined by Josh Brody, graduate of The New School here in New York, who questioned Bill Clinton in Santa Fe.

What happened? What did you ask? And were you satisfied with President Clinton’s responses, Josh?

JOSH BRODY: Hi, Amy. Thank you so much for having me. Well, no, I wasn’t satisfied with the responses. What I had asked about was Aid to Families with Dependent Children, the Commodities Future Modernization Act and Gramm-Leach-Bliley, in addition to his overall government spending.

After seeing the barrier the kid got through at the zoo, I change my mind. The barrier is inadequate

I was arguing on the other side of this issue on one thread until saw the actual barrier or lack there of. It appears to be two flimsy wires that any kid could slip through or over in seconds. Also, the vegetation covers the giant fall so a kid could go under and into the dense vegetation and not realize he/she was about to fall 15 feet.

You can stop the video at the 27 second mark to see the barrier. I don't have major strong feelings about this because there are a lot of dangerous opportunities for kids like busy streets that don't have fences etc. and I think these kind of barriers are pretty common in zoos because they assume people are going to fear the giant drop off, but I see no harm in putting in a slightly higher fence that is chain link that would make it much harder for a rambunctious child to get through and prevent something like this in the future. Kids have wild imaginations and they often think the animals are friendly as this kid did suggesting he wanted be with them. It's possible this kid recently saw "The Jungle Book" and so he imagines all animals to be like those in the movie. Ready to be a kids best friend.

Dick Van Dyke introduces Sanders at rally - The Hill

Actor Dick Van Dyke introduced Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders at a rally in Santa Barbara, Calif., Saturday with a message for the older generation.

“Mostly I want to be here to talk to my generation,” the 90-year-old said. “I have a really important message for them. I was born in the Coolidge administration. Can you believe that? So I’ve seen a lot of politics. I was 5 years old when the stock market crashed; I lost everything."

“What I want to say to my contemporaries is, as Bernie says, in the ’50s and ’60s, real democracy was really working from the bottom up, like it’s supposed to," he added. "There were no economic crashes during those decades because regulations were in place.”

Van Dyke lamented financial deregulation and the bailout of Wall Street and said, "We need the person who can break the stranglehold that corporate America has on this country right now."

Van Dyke, who was preceded on stage by actor Justin Long, has previously expressed his support for Sanders.

People who read or write text messages while driving are 23 percent more likely to be involved in a car crash than other drivers.

The US Department of Transportation notes that the use of cell phones while driving plays a role in 1.6 million auto crashes each year, causing 500,000 injuries and 6,000 deaths.

And while text messaging is banned for drivers in 46 states and the District of Columbia, many people continue to do it, despite knowing the dangers.

To help us all be safer, less-distracted drivers, some apps can block cell phone features—including texting while driving. Others will encourage you not to text or help you receive or send messages in a way that’s perhaps less distracting.

Live2Txt is an app that lets you block incoming texts and calls while driving. Turn the app on when you get behind the wheel, and you’ll silence your smartphone from incoming notifications, texts and calls. When you receive a message, the app will alert the sender with a customized message that you’re unable to respond at the moment. (For Android)
