Schiff: This election will not be overturned, but what about the next

or the one after that?

He’s right. The only thing stopping them right now is an absence of votes. If R’s controlled the House and the Senate right now with substantial majorities does anyone doubt that they would subvert this election?

I almost agree with this

Almost, because Trump’s effect on our overall culture was so poisonous. I didn’t think we could overcome another four years of his empowered pathologies and their corrosive effect on too many Americans.

But McConnell...watch out for bitter people with some smarts and loads of discipline. He was poised to torture our next President on appointments and legislation, with Trump crowing from the sidelines. It would have been dispiriting for Dems to say the least, and it wouldn’t have taken long for the finger-pointing to start.

Now, they’ve both been cut off at the knees. Finger-pointing will be a Republican sport while we have a very good chance to get things done and move the country forward.

It’s a great day.

Nicola Sturgeon warns Donald Trump coming to play golf in Scotland is not essential travel

https://twitter.com/krishgm/status/1346459092840284161
The question of Mr Trump visiting Scotland comes after an anonymous source from Prestwick Airport said that an American military version of the Boeing 757, an aircraft often used by the Vice-President and the First Lady, is scheduled to arrive at the airport on January 19, the day before Joe Biden takes over the presidency.

Mr Trump owns the Turnberry golf resort in Aberdeenshire.

Speaking at Tuesday’s daily coronavirus briefing, Ms Sturgeon said that she “has no idea what Donald Trump’s travel plans are” but that she hopes that the only immediate plans he has are to exit the White House.

Julian Assange cannot be extradited to US, British judge rules

Source: The Guardian

Julian Assange cannot be extradited to the US to face charges of espionage and of hacking government computers, a British judge has decided.

The ruling was delivered at the central criminal court by the district judge, Vanessa Baraitser.

An appeal is expected to be mounted against the ruling, which comes after weeks of hearings at the Old Bailey last year and campaigning by supporters of Assange and others who have decried US charges against the him as an attack on press freedom.

The case against the 49-year-old relates to WikiLeaks’s publication of hundreds of thousands of leaked documents about the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, as well as diplomatic cables, in 2010 and 2011.

Maya Plisetskaya (50 years old) dances to Bolero

Fun fact: she was born on the exact same date as RFK and they were good buds.

Of their friendship, Plisetskaya wrote in her autobiography:

With me Robert Kennedy was romantic, elevated, noble, and completely pure. No seductions, no passes.

Robert Kennedy was assassinated just days before he was to see Plisetskaya again in New York. Gershunoff, Plisetskaya's manager at the time, recalls that on the day of the funeral, most of the theaters and concert halls in New York City went "dark", closed in mourning and respect. The Bolshoi likewise planned to cancel their performance, but they decided instead to do a different ballet than planned, one dedicated to Kennedy. Gershunoff describes that evening:

The most appropriate way to open such an evening would be for the great Plisetskaya to perform The Dying Swan, which normally would close an evening’s program to thunderous applause with stamping feet, and clamors for an encore.... This assignment created an emotional burden for Maya. She really did not want to dance that work that night ... I thought it was best for me to remain backstage in the wings. That turned out to be one of the most poignant moments I have ever experienced. Replacing the usual thunderous audience applause at the conclusion, there was complete silence betokening the feelings of a mourning nation in the packed, cavernous Metropolitan Opera House. Maya came off the stage in tears, looked at me, raised her beautiful arms and looked upward. Then disappeared into her dressing room.
