+1 Try finding pics of Occupy police violence now. Or doing a search on DU on torture policy or
the police state, in particular.
Q: Who defends torture and calls torturers, "patriots"?
A: Those complicit in torture and defending it. And there is great complicity across our corporate and MIC-owned government now.
Note how many of these discussions are now missing from DU. I had to go looking for many of the original sources online. This is why it's important to title articles with the actual titles of the sources...Pres. Obama Never Rescinded Bush Memo On Torture- Still Part of Military Interrogation Doctrine

+100000 Which illustrates how cynical and empty and manipulative the Third Way exhortations
and claims to especially care about "civil rights" really are.
My favorite recent example is the swarm response I received when I had the audacity to suggest in a thread about Ferguson that the protests by Ferguson residents should yield some ACTUAL POLICY CHANGES.
You would have thought I committed a mortal sin for bringing up the fact that this corporate administration has been complicit in the militarization of police and other policies, such as privatization of prisons, that actively *grow* exploitative communities like Ferguson.
For merely suggesting that protesters demand an end to the federal militarization programs. I was met with one of the most over-the-top, sustained, hyperbolic, and vitriolic defensive swarms that I have ever seen from the corporate posting crew here. I was even accused of not caring about RACISM because of suggesting that the protesters might actually have policy demands that might involve the Obama administration. It would have been amusing if the political motive behind it weren't so transparent and ugly. And the cherry on top was that, AFTER all these accusations were leveled against me, the Ferguson protesters *themselves* came out the very next day, demanding exactly what I had suggested.
The MO of corporate Third Way propaganda is to give lip service to the disempowerment of minority groups while DEFENDING THE MALIGNANT POLICIES THAT SUSTAIN IT and attacking those who would implicate Third Way politicians in its perpetuation and escalation.
The corporate corruption of this nation will never end as long as we yield to the bullying to refrain from holding politicians accountable just because they wear a certain team color. Dividing us by team color is a tactic and a tool by corporatists and their propaganda machines to keep us powerless in the face of what is being done to us all.
Policies that concentrate wealth in the hands of a tiny elite, while dismantling democratic protections of the masses, have NEVER resulted in empowerment of or increases in civil rights for vulnerable groups. Never in history, and not now. See my extensive links elsewhere in this thread documenting the REAL consequences of neoliberal policies on women and minority groups.
That is why the lies of neoliberals are so dangerous.
Corporatism makes a mockery of democracy and transfer of power.
Corporatism is the ruling elite's answer to the problem of democracy replacing monarchy.
Democratic government was supposed to solve the problem of monarchy: the hoarding of wealth by a ruling elite over generations.
The goal of corporatism is to grow/transfer/redirect and SUSTAIN the wealth of this nation in the hands of a tiny, privileged elite, notwithstanding the propagandized illusion of democracy and transfer of power. It is the equivalent of monarchy, just wearing a slick democracy costume.
The Clintons and the Bushes are not the ruling elite, but they have close ties to it and are/will be handsomely rewarded for their service to it. They are not the dynasty itself (Think Rockefellers, Rothschilds...), but the corrupt, purchased political product of it; if we don't get a Clinton or a Bush, we get an Obama or a Romney. As long as our government is purchased by this fraction of the One Percent, there will always be more corrupt corporate-political puppets being groomed and waiting in the wings.
For their service in entrenching, legalizing, sustaining, and growing this monied corruption at the expense of the 99 percent, they and their children will never have to worry about anything for the rest of their lives.
This administration has aggressively EXPANDED police militarization and shows no signs
of reversing that course, all slick rhetoric about body cameras and pretty intentions aside.
Huge K&R. Thank you for this important OP.
You are right. What we need is for the militarization programs to be ended.
We need a public, national database on police violence toward citizens.
And we need relentless attention from the DOJ to cases of police violence until this garbage stops.
But we are already receiving relentless messaging that we have no right to expect or demand actual reversal of the militarization. Cameras on the militarized police is the ONLY bone that has even been mentioned, and we were expected to cheer in delight at that empty concession by our corporate masters.
The militarization of our police is federally driven, bipartisan, and as much a part of the growing police state as the mass surveillance, prison industrial complex, and assaults on journalism, other political protesters, and whistleblowers.
The occasional pretty, empty rhetoric being offered is not a first step to anything. This administration has vastly expanded the obscene militarization of our police forces. That obscene militarization continues, to the point that we now regularly see photos in our newspapers that look like something out of Afghanistan. There is ZERO sign on the horizon that actually REVERSING a vicious, malignant policy is even being considered. The Obama administration's escalation of police militarization
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/06/aclu-police-militarization-swat_n_2813334.html
It's almost certain that if the police agencies cooperate, the ACLU will find that the militarization trend has accelerated since Kraska's studies more than a decade ago. All of the policies, incentives and funding mechanisms that were driving the trend then are still in effect now. And most of them have grown in size and scope.
The George W. Bush administration actually began scaling down the Byrne and COPS programs in the early 2000s, part of a general strategy of leaving law enforcement to states and localities. But the Obama administration has since resurrected both programs. The Byrne program got a $2 billion surge in funding as part of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, by far the largest budget in the program's 25-year history. Obama also gave the COPS program $1.55 billion that same year, a 250 percent increase over its 2008 budget, and again the largest budget in the program's history. Vice President Joe Biden had championed both programs during his time in the Senate.
The Pentagon's 1033 program has also exploded under Obama. In the program's monthly newsletter (Motto: "From Warfighter to Crimefighter" , its director announced in October 2011 that his office had given away a record $500 million in military gear in fiscal year 2011, which he noted, "passes the previous mark by several hundred million dollars." He added, "I believe we can exceed that in FY 12.
Then there are the Department of Homeland Security's anti-terrorism grants. The Center for Investigative Reporting found in a 2011 investigation that since 2001, DHS has given out more than $34 billion in grants to police departments across the country, many of which have been used to purchase military-grade guns, tanks, armor, and armored personnel carriers. The grants have gone to such unlikely terrorism targets as Fargo, N.D.; Canyon County, Idaho; and Tuscaloosa, Ala.What we need is for the militarization programs to be ended.
We need a public, national database on police violence toward citizens.
And we need relentless attention from the DOJ to cases of police violence until this garbage stops.
But we are expected to cheer, because now there may be cameras on the officers in our militarized police state. We are to accept that the militarization itself is an acceptable "new normal."
This is textbook MO of our new corporate-ruled government. Implement unconscionable new authoritarian policy...then make some small concession that preserves the bulk of the new abuses, and seek adulation for that. You will know the corporate Third Way by their absolute refusal to entertain the possibility that the abuses should actually be reversed. You will know them by the incessant, malignant propaganda messaging that teaches us always to accept the "new normal," no matter how unconscionable it may be.
Militarized police, prison industrial complexes, impoverished communities, mass surveillance....They are all part of the new normal, the corporate police state being constructed around us.
We have to insist on reversal of the militarization itself. Our corporate government will never yield more than we demand.
We must not accept our militarized police forces as an acceptable "new normal" in the United States of America. Corporatists have no right to do this to us and to our country.

Hillary's assaults on American jobs and wages extend even beyond the vicious TPP.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=5767160
[font size=3]The nonpartisan Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) has already concluded that Hillary's TPP will be a vicious assault on the jobs and wages of the vast majority of American workers. Fully NINETY PERCENT of American workers will see a pay cut as a result of this axe to the throat of the American worker, and that is not even counting the jobs that will be lost altogether.
But Hillary is not even stopping there. She is also pushing for predatory increases in H1B visas that take jobs from Americans:

Reject Third Way lies. Watch the policies, not the pretty rhetoric.

Nothing is more important than stopping Hillary or any other Third Way corporatist in a Democrat suit from being shoved down our throats as the Democratic nominee in 2016.
Corporate Republicans and the corporate Third Way are not just another flavor of politician within an essentially functioning representative government. They are building perpetual war, a police and surveillance state, and using our own laws and intelligence agencies to empower corporations over the will of the American people to dismantle democracy itself.
